Most dampers in the market look alike as 90+ % are in black...and bonnet damper all looks like...well...DAMPERS !
However, try fitting a damper set that's not designed specifically for your vehicle, then you will suffer bodywork damages like fenders, bonnet, uneven gaps etc due to poor design and workmanship.
Please also take note that each and every damper for each make of car have different pressure to cope with different weight of the bonnet.
Cheers !

I never even considered it. I'm accustomed to using gravity (from a carefully calibrated height) to apply the proper force to latch the hood. I wouldn't like pushing the light aluminum hood against the force of the springs to shut it like a trunk.
I'm far too old and set in my ways to change now.

i personally like the prop rod, as it allows me to close the hood without pushing down on it and getting my grubby finger prints all over my hood, which would be a requirement with the gas struts.

It allows you to keep it open with no prop, you don't have to worry about bumping it and getting slammed in the head, when your working under the hood (perhaps adding oil), and it looks a little nicer when you open the hood to show someone what a rotary engine looks like.
I think I'm totally ok with the prop rod.

I have struts on my hood and you can drop the hood about six inches up and it closes nice.
