Jeesh!, Is this right or some PM needs to be done

I have my VR 04 for over a year or so now. I know that they suck gas like there is no tomorrow but I drive 25 miles each way from my house to work which is about 50 miles, I am down a quarter tank. I don't have a heavy foot on the gas pedal, try to keep pm and oil change regularly. Well, except for my air filter which is probably due.

But still, quarter tank to drive 50 miles on the freeway? Does that sound right or maybe something is causing the very bad gas mileage?

dont take my word for it though

i get around 18mpg no matter how i drive.

i've noticed that getting into 6th gear as soon as possible when cruising does help slightly.

dont go by the gauge...that thing is so inaccurate...
On a supposedly 60L tank, the needle was 2 ticks below the half way mark. I filled up 26.4L....

Protocol: I get around 200 miles per tank on highway...so it sounds right to me...it does sound horrible for my wallet, though....but then, that's the (not so) hidden cost of keeping an RX8 for a daily driver.

Sounds about right, I get the same. Don't even try to save on gas, just drive. You will only get about 15 miles extra and your loosing out on all that fun!

Thanks guys knowing im not the only one. My V8 Expedition gets better gas mileage then my 8. LOL, then again my Expedition has a 26 gallon tank compared to the 8 which is a16 gallon tank.

Oh wells, want a nice car, gotta pay the gas price $4.01 per gallon. So......, I'm just going to suck it up like a man let her keep raping my wallet.

Don't worry, the guage isn't proprotionate to the gallons used. I also get 50 miles on the first 1/4, but I get about 70 on the next 1/4, then about 100 on the next... Mostly highway and shifting at about 4500rpm. 19-20 mpg.

Yeah, once that needle drops to just below the last 1/4 tank it seems as if you can actually see that thing dropping by the second, LOL. She gets very thirsty down in that range

I currently own a cx7 which my mom will keep so I can buy the rx8 this weekend hopefully and the only way it will give me more than 17 to 18.5 mpg is if I stay off the boost. But then driving is just boring jaja.

I've noted this before: until the car warms up, fuel consumption is even worse than normal, if that's even possible. Let it warm up a bit, because if you don't I promise you'll be gettin 7MPG for the first few minutes...

What is your highway millage like? Stop and go?

I drive 26 miles a day in stop and go traffic that is a combination of city and highway. I average 200 - 210 miles between fillups. However when I drive on the highway that is not stop and go the millage increase quite a bit.

Honestly, I could care less about paying for it, but what drives me nuts is having to take the time go to the gas station so often.

I get 250 per tank and by per tank a bit after the light comes on so 13 or so gallons so yeah 50 miles is a bit under a quarter tank for me.

yea, there is NOTHING you can do to improve gas mileage except do a hydrogen hybrid. The MPG gains you might think you get (maybe even if its 15-20 extra miles to the TANK) There are too many variables that can account for that (ie ambient temp, humidity, whatever).

Granted yes if you drive redline all the time you will burn up more gas, but for the regular 2k-6k driving, wont make any bit of difference.

The only way to save gas is not to drive... the only way to get lower gas prices is collectively have groups of people do suicide bombings on as many gas stations as possible.

That's about normal.

I get approximately 190 to the tank... and I found out just two days ago (over at the dyno with MM and Ray) that I'm running SUPER RICH...

I did a 200 miles round trip few days ago. 100 miles each way, right before I start hitting the highway I fill her up.

When I came back from the trip, the tank is about a bit more than 1/4 tank left. so I guess if I keep driving it on the highway, I *might* be able to hit at least 270 miles for a tank (before the fuel light comes on). Which is not that bad IMO.
