What I think is most hilarious is that radleyracing thought it was perfectly ordinary to casually post "oh, I jumped my 8 off a bridge...", and seemed almost surprised that everyone went "YOU JUMPED YOUR 8 OFF A BRIDGE?!?!? " :D

Oh, well if it's the thing to do... after all, as an 8 owner, it is reasonable to assume that I'm a real follow-the-pack peer-pressure kind of guy, just like the rest of you. :D

Probably you didn't bend your endlinks during the one straight jump you describe....the endlinks will get bent out of hell due to extremely hard corning and other hard abuse over time, I bet you killed your endlinks way before (or along with?) the so-called "bridge jump". Your swaybars shifted out of the bushings at some stage and caused the endlinks to twist. If your going to take your car to the extreme (and I'm not saying that's wrong mate ), then at least get some clamps to tie down your sways and save your endlinks.

well i jumped this hill we call thrill hill. it's a little hump at the bottom of a large mountain/hill. i got 6-7 feet of air in my honda and a totally perfect cotton ball landing. no sound or bounce or anything.. just slowly met back up with the road and silence turned back into road noise... that was the best jump ever. don't think I'd try it with the rx8 though... ( who am I kidding...)

Thumbs up

6-7 feet of AIR?! You must mean you went 6-7 feet IN THE AIR... If you were that high off the pavement there is very little chance that you'd come down smoothly!

I tried to jump my 8 once. Even after I got a good running start, I still landed on the hood. New hoods are expensive.

(I'm kidding. )

6-7 feet up in air.. it's kinda hard to explain, the hill is part way down a hill. the road continues downhill and a slight angle so you can get the car airborne and the road will slowly meet back up with you downhill a bit.

The 8 has a wonderfully stiff stock chassis, it holds up extremely well to hard corners without upgraded braces, struts and/or suspension components, even with the stock rims/tyres. The 8's ability to take stable fast corners is it's best feature IMO. However, endlinks can get bent out of shape if they're stressed too many times, mostly extreme driving over uneven roads (and maybe this includes bridge jumping ). Again, nothing wrong with pushing your car to the max, just understand it's limitations and be prepared for the cost of replacing these less obvious parts from time to time if necessary.

HI-larious. I love it. I have a priceless mental picture of you screaming YEEEHAWWW as you launch your sport compact rotary into the air.

Of course, with all the talk of Mazda corporate prowling the forums looking for people's warranties to void...I'll bet there's a team of monkeys working around the clock right now to track down your VIN

Response to bridge jumping

Wow, all you guys fail to realize he was re-enacting the scene from "Road Trip" not "Dukes of Hazzard". Go ahead, ask hiim about the panites. :P

So...how fast did that engine spin when the rear wheels left the ground? I bet the gyroscopic forces of the rotation helped you out a bit in staying level :p .

4 feet! Dude, you've been playing Need For Speed Underground on your Playstation 2 wayyy too much! Take it easy, you don't want to further damage the car, or yourself. It's bothersome to me to see some of the younger owners abuse their awesome cars like this while I baby my pickup truck. Spirited driving is fine, but you should always start off slow to test the limits, not try to meet them on the first try. I know from experience, as I used to drive a sports car too.
