Just bought a 2005 RX8 GT. I'm a Newbie.

I have never owned one these machines before so all things will be new to me.
Is there any upfront advice that some of the more experienced owners would like to give a newbie.
Perhaps something you wish you wold have known in the very beginning.

(like maintenance, repairs, preventative, general ideas, fluid types for different parts, etc...etc...) to save me from this later on

It would be great if I could get a fresh start. Thanks!

I might suggest you read the gas/premix, syth vs. dino oil, How often do I redline threads. That will give you tons of things to consider. Welcome

I would start in the issues and problems section and look there.

I would look up:
Engine Recall
Ignition
Clogged Cat

I would also check the TSB thread and go to the dealer with all the TSBs printed out and have them check them all and replace what is needed for you.

one thing to know is that your gonna here a lot of different people tell you their opinions on rotary engines.....most of them are full of **** and have never even owned one, second rev that biatch, the rx8 loves to be revved, you wont break it, last take it to a madza dealer and make sure all recalls have been performed.....congrats on your new 8

Words of wisdom for here, and most on-line fora. Lots of knowledgable folks here, but you need to hang out here for a while figure out who they are.

Titanium - read the FAQs first. And your owner's manual. Follow the prescribed maintenance schedule, following the "severe service" schedule.

Aside from that, IMHO there are only two special things to watch out for with the 8. One is to not shut it off cold. The other is to enjoy how high the engine revs. Enjoy that as often as you can.

Welcome.

Ken

Congrats...

You should considered adding Idemitsu Premix or Lucas UCL into the gastank ... the oil injectors on the 04-08 don't get enough oil to lubricate the rotor seals causing early engine failure. The 09 models come with a secondary oil injector. Visit the oil/premix thread. Some injector cleaner wouldn't hurt to clean out you older engine.

Make sure you computer flash is up to date, go to your dealership-covered by warranty.

Thanks for helping out guys. I truly appreciate those who have given me some direction here. Several comments here have led me to some key information and knowledge. Especially the links provided by nvrfalter. (which I have just read through all 3 links thoroughly). I had already gone to the FAQ section in the grey bar at the top left corner and I didn't find anything like the great info provided in the first link from nvrfalter. That's a very valuable link for new 8 owners.

Again thanks very much to everyone!

no problem chief. i think they should make those ones easier to find on the site. actually they should put it on the index page in big red size 72 font. some of that is essential information you should have available the second you have the notion of buying this car. cheers.
