Just Bought by 2006, a few questions for keeping her healthy (and others....)
Hi all,
I've already posted my excitement in getting my 2006 Galaxy Gray. Had on 13 miles on the odometer when I got it so I'm not worried about what other speed demons (like me) did to it in test driving etc..But may I solicit some advice and ask some questions.....??
1) Engine Oil: I picked up a few bottles/cans of Castrol GTX 5W-20. Any problems with this choice?
2) Dealership told me to come back after 5000 miles for oil change and first service (or four months). Does this sound right? And dumb question, do oil changes come free under warranty?
3) Is it true that I may get somewhat better fuel milage once the car is broken in?
4) Can anyone direct me somewhere that actually lists all the stock parts that came with the car like shocks, brakes, etc, etc? I'd be interested in knowing?
5) Is it necessary or needed to go ahead now and slather on a heavy dosing of wax?
6) Any other suggestions (however mundane) for the new car?
I'm taking her out tomorrow for a long drive up into the mountains to get the requisite 600 mile break-in period behind me. I've been driving her like a grand-ma (er, well, ..........maybe a drunken grand-ma but still treating it carefully).......
Thanx for anything you guys have to offer!!!!

1) Good choice of oil
2) Okay interval but the first change should be sooner. I don't think changes are included but they are cheap.
3) So people say.
4) Mazdaparts.com and other dealer sites. See the vendor forums.
5) Not for a new car but do it anyhow. Pick a nice day...
6) Careful break-in. Read the manual. After break-in beep often. Enjoy. Attend meetings.

I get free oil changes from my dealership for as long as I own the car. They gave me a "preferred customer" card that says I get it every 3000 miles or 90 days. It wasn't a warranty thing, though. It was a dealer thing. They sell their Mazda oil there for, I think, $2.85 a bottle of 5W20. The guy said the oil they used in the shop was Castrol GTX.

I don't know much about the RX-8 as of yet but I'm going to be learning because I'm a car enthuisist and my dad will be getting his in a couple weeks. I have a 350Z and can't wait to detail his RX-8. As far as slathering wax on it... I would first give it a good wash then clay the car. You can find a good claybar at most autoparts stores then put a good synthetic wax on the car... my choice is Zaino. www.zainobros.com. After that it's all in the maintainance. Getting bird bombs off the paint as quickly as possible etc.

Castrol is a very good brand of oil... I like Royal Purple, but thats synthetic....I'd get my oil changed every 3,000 miles if I were you, but when you get your first oil change, their going to put a sticker on your window when to come back, so just follow that... As to what parts came on your car I would go to Mazdaparts.com like DarkBrew said...Now the whole break in period has been debated... Some say that the rotary doesn't have to be, but some say that its a must, I would just do it to be safe, as I did.... I mean Rotary engines can take a beating, but i wouldn't want to risk damaging anything..... Good Luck and Congrats on your new '06... have fun
