just bought question about oil?

Just got my 05 rx8 with 60k on it. Quick question so I know from reading that I put in 5w 20 oil every other fill up. My question is how much do you usually put in? I'm just worried about over filling etc....Also is that a car that I can take to my local lube shop and get the oil changed or do you recommend taking it to the dealer. I want to keep this car for a long time and want to do everything possible to maintain this. If anyone has any suggestions for me please let me know.

I recommend that you read the owner's manual and use the search function.

Fill up however much you need. The owners manual tells you how to read the dipstick. A general idea is you fill 1 qt every 3000 miles. Some more, some less. Depends how hard you ride it.

Recommended to change your oil yourself. Dealers can over-fill the oil and cause it to overflow into your intake, while jiffy lube will just screw it up.

In the future, make sure you search diligently before asking questions which have been answered plenty (click the link in my sig to search easier).
Usually, you want to add a quart to every 3000 miles. Some engines burn differently, so the best way to fill is to add and check your dipstick (may take a while, but it's worth it!) plus, only check your oil when the engine is at normal op temps (180*F) because the oil expands when heated.
Read the DIY section to learn to do it yourself. It's quick, cheap and easy! Make sure you keep receipts of oil and mark down oil changes in your owners manual, as you will need these in the event your engine blows while still under warranty. Otherwise, take it to the dealer so they have records of it.

EDIT: beat me to it guys!

You don't really add oil every other fill up. You add oil whenever you need oil... Every other fill up just check your dip stick, and if you need oil, add accordingly... If you add it pretty frequently then it isn't gonna need much when you do.

also keep an eye on how much it burns in how many miles so you dont need to check it too often.

That's because we get new members, and they're just as green as we were when we first got our 8s.

Howard - don't let the jokesters intimidate you. Just their form of tough love. Only one of those guys is a wretch - the rest are really cool and helpful.

If you don't change oil yourself, find a good shop or dealer. Avoid quick lube places, unless you know one that has a genuinely good reputation.
