Just bought a RX8!
Hello everyone I am new to the forums here just purchased a 05 Grand Tourning Velocity Red RX8 MT with 37k miles on saturday (my first manual car). I got it for $14,599. I've been roaming around the forums for about a month now researching the rx8 finally decided to go out and grab one. I had to take a 3 hour drive to purchase it but it was well worth the trip. So far I love just about everything about this vehicle. Reving up to the high rpms and hearing the rotary is probably the #1 reason I bought this car. Also the looks of this car catches so many eyes the good and the bad, gets the ladies going though . As all of you already figured this out years ago =P. Anyway just wanted to stop by and say hello. I'm planning on taking a trip to Tail of the Dragon this summer let me know if there is already a trip planned or if you want to tag along. I apologize for the crappy cell phone pics ahead of time =/. Pictures below.

Congrats! I love my RX-8 for the same reasons. And it isn't just the ladies who will have your attention. I've found that pretty much everyone ogles my car, and many kids go nuts when they see me driving in it.

Thanks guys. Yeah I was a little bit shaky on the red since I have a red 3g eclipse already (MAJOR upgrade I must say). But I figured wth this is too good of a deal to pass up. I love the color actually and its very fun to drive around. Only thing I hate though since there seems to be a unlimited supply of police around my area their always right up on my *** waiting for me unleash the high rpms =P.

oh most def. Ive read a lot of threads over there and they flame everyone and talk bad about their car. But its a great DD. But anyway I'm trying to get my car ready for the Tail of the Dragon any suggestions on where to start?

Hey, welcome to the club!
My advice since you're getting ready for the Dragon is to take it out there while it's still stock. The car handles well in it's stock form IMO. From there I would tweak things accordingly. Don't simply be one who buys mod's just to have them. Buy the ones you feel that you need.

i say you start with the AFE short shifter, great mod, changes the feel of the shifter completely...then some lowering springs to get rid of that wheel gap...then your car will look almost like mine

Great idea I may just take it down there stock form. I'm not really the type that goes mod crazy so I can have a encyclopedia of whats on my car. I just want what performs the best for the car and what I'm comfortable with. Short shifter is a good idea, I also see a lot of rx8 owners have a rear sway bar inside of the trunk would that offer better handling say on the dragon?

It'll stiffen the rear a little bit - don't exactly know by how much though.
My opinion though is to seriously take it out there bone stock. Get a feel for it and then do some research on things that you feel would help you achieve your goal.
For me, i felt the car had a little too much body roll at high speeds during turns - so i'm set with progressive lowering springs and sways (which i still need to get). Overall you gotta know what you're working with before taking the next steps. Honestly, it'll save you more money in the end.

OHHHH...another 4g64'er in the house... Yeah, actually that little bastard was a lot of fun to drive the crap out of, and I must say that I lost my "shade tree tuner/mechanic virginity" to that car...it was pretty easy to work on. I used to be on that site, some of the folks got a little out of hand with the racial stuff, but a majority of them were pretty cool. And no offense to the 3g, but I'm digging the car and this community more.
