Red face Just Bought A Used Automatic RX8 & Beginner Driver =]

hey guys

i just bought a used automatic RX8 , its gun-metal grey and i love the way it looks
to be honest i just started driving and im 16, just got my license
im not here to become an EXPERT driver but i would love some tips and hints

yes, it is my first car and im looking forward to all the experiences i will have in it
i think i have chosen the right car for me and i want to see where this car takes me

i just got on this club forum and ive already read alot that can help me
for example, the warmup the car needs

i would also like to ask about the acceleration... im in high school and ive always wanted the "quick acceleration" type of car and im a bit iffy about the slow start but im willing to get used to it... BUTTT is there anything i can add for faster acceleration? Im still trying to get the hang of the tiptronic system and in time i think i will learn to LOVE it lol

well i hope for some positive feedback and tips, i wouldnt mind becoming a regular here =P

thanks, the new newbie

Well you didnt but the right car for a first time driver but if was all you wanted then I guess the AT was the best way to go. Dont worry about acceleration. That should be the last thing on your mind right now. People here will give advice on certain things especially wisdom. You need to learn how to drive first before you worry about speed. Please explain the name "shayneypoo." Welcome to the addiction

well let me be the first to say congrates on getting your frist car esp. the RX8 and good job on getting your license.. i have the same car as your and i do want more acceleration but the RX8 isnt a drag car. it is ment for the twisty roads.. but if you have the money to get more power and better acceleration go with a supercharger. but if you just want to do some bolt ons. i would suggest a catback exhaust, intake, RB ram air, pulleys and a mid pipe... and to learn more try to use the search botton on the top right. if you have any more questions please feel free to ask me.

i know what you want. heres how to get it, google the local autocross club, race in it once. instant respect from friends when you ACTUALLY race your car. get a cam corder and a chase cam mount, u'll have a blast =D.. it may seem kinda slow from the side, but in the car, u are having the time of your life.

edit: crap u bought automatic.. oh wellz.. i think u can still race... just not gonna be winning anytime soon. but u can still have fun =D

police 34:

well my dad sort of got it for me and i had checked it out before then and i love how NO ONE practically has on, so thats a plus
and i understand that i need to learn how to drive first but the acceleration lag is a BIG difference for me.. maybe because for the past year with my permit i have been driving my dads 350Z that just launches at the touch of the pedal... acceleration just seems like such a MAJOR plus in a car for me..

shayneypoo is the name my girlfriend and her friends call me.. it sort of stuck dont ask

lilring:

thanks man. i hope to have a great time in this car. and i dont have the money for ANYTHING major right now... maybe something that is 100-300 bucks i can do occasionally but NOTHING big. sorry haha

I am a bit older than you and my only advice is..

your friends are going to ask you to race, DON'T DO IT. I have friends who raced illegally on the streets and end up going to jail, if you really want to race go try out Autocross.

The bolt-ons you listed might net him 5 or 6 hp and he will spend around 2k. Certainly not worth it. Best to focus on driving rather than trying to go fast

If you wanted straight-line performance, you bought the wrong vehicle

The AT 8 power is reduced a lot. It's not a quick car. It will feel much slower due to the lack of low end torque. The Z has low torque therefore feels faster. Although it is quicker than your AT just have fun in it.

Tips as a beginning driver.
This car has enough power to get you into serious trouble in a hurry. As a new driver, you should be paying attention to the road and the other drivers on it. Not figuring out how to push the car to it's limits.

There are no mods that are going to give you a significant performance boost save a turbo or super charger and thats going to cost $$$$.

The 8 is not going to be the fastest car at your school even with FI. It's not a drag car.

Please remember that your abilities as a driver are less then the abilities of the car. You would not be the first person on this forum to get an 8 as a new driver and roll it over a few weeks later. I don't want to see that again.

Welcome to the forums, and please don't hesitate to use the search function.

You will look back on this car in your old age and have no regrets ever. Not even about buying the automatic.

Go find some windy back roads and have some fun with the car. For REAL fun, try autocross as others have mentioned.

Damn, when I was 16, my first car was a 1979 Chrysler Newport.. i called it the Clunker!

Check oil often, and keep up with regular maintenance!

Welcome to the club and congrats on the new car. The auto RX-8 is, like police34, reduced in power and redline is reduced somewhat from the manual version. This coupled with any RX-8's lack of low end torque is why it will feel drastically different from your Dad's Z. Also the linear smoothness of a rotary engine means it will have a different feel. Your 8 should give you the most oomph in the upper rev range so don't hesitate to rev it. Not to worry though, as the car is still every bit as fun and you can add some simple things such as intake/exhaust to get a more aggressive sound which makes the car seem/sound faster. Where this car shines is in it's steering/handling/balance. After you put some miles on it you will quickly see what I'm talking about. This is your first car so it needn't be a rocket right off the bat. You will have plenty of time to get faster cars once you get some driving experience behind you. Enjoy.

This is my first car as well.. But when I was 16.. The closest thing I had to drive was my go-cart.

Just don't speed on those freaking highways because cops really lock into the 8.. I learned the hard way..

The 8 isn't too much car for her. A brand new V6 Camry will be as fast.

To the OP, the reason why your dad let you get this car is because it is noticeably slower than his 350Z.
