Just came back from the NY auto show

Not only did Mazda have their own lil spot, but across the street from the javitz center they had a whole tent dedicated to them.
And what was the first car you saw when you walked in you ask?
The RX8! :
Sat in it and offcourse, felt amazing!
Played with whatever I could, and man does that stick shift feel smooth!
I was talking to the dude who was in charge of the RX8 display.
Cool guy, and he did a fine job of memorizing what info they had given to him, but thankz to you all and this board I def owned the convo hehe.
Anyway I spent a good 20 mins there, and moved onto the javitz center.
I must say I was pretty disapointed.
All the cars looked pretty damn bland, even some of the concepts ( which were pretty few) looked weak.
The camaro looked big and bulky, and the 3 series BMW felt so cramped and cheap inside.
On the plus side, the Vette, and Aston Martin were very dope!
The Saturn Sky was pretty cool, but I thought the back looked seriously ugly.
All in all I got my RX8 fix, but I doubt ill go again next year since ill have my own 8 to look at!!

Ash

BTW: I asked the RX8 dude about the hydrogen rx8... I thought it was only available in Japan but he said they do have them here in the states.
I asked how much but I didnt clearly understand what he said.
It was either 40 grand or 40 more grand?
Can any1 substantiate this?

The NY Autoshow...

Brings back memories! I used to convince my parents to take me almost every year when I was a kid! It actually ruined the experience of going to the DC Autoshow for me!

i wasn't too impressed with the autoshow this year.

the scion fuse was okay i guess. not my deal but still had unique features. i think the camaro and challenger concepts look so much better in person. i got pretty excited over the bmw m6. great car there. i like the looks of the TT. although its got porsche written all over it imo.

i was really disappointed the lambo miura wasn't even there. it kinda pissed me off actually because it says it should be there on autoshowny.com.

i had not warmed up to the kabura through online and magazine pictures, but once it was right in front of me i was very impressed. really good looking car. my dad, who is a devout german car enthusiast who never looks another direction actually admitted to really liking the kabura. lol

in the mazda tent, they had a special mx-5 with a crazy paintjob...the guy told me there was a renesis in it and swore by it...anyone??

The renesis was in the race car next to the mx-5.
A miata doesnt have a rotary lol.
Speaking of which the dude I was speaking to told me they banned the rotary race cars from the trax for a while. I wasnt too sure what he meant on that either, or which races they were banned from?

btw glad im not the only one who wasnt impressed with it.
So many people were drooling, but I thought it was very bland.
Even the down stairs area which was supposed to be the "exotic cars section"
A hummer, a lambo, and a couple of porsches are what they considered the exotic section lol.
Pretty fukin weak...

I have learnt that the NC series MX-5 is engineered to accept the 13B-MSP engine....

Now, the question is .... when will this option be made available

I wasn't impressed by the NY autoshow this year, but seeing the Kabura made it worth it... cheap, lightweight, balanced, RWD with a short wheelbase that seats 3.5 people. It must be built. Some photos. Other comments from the show:
  • There was an RX8, but almost no rotary presence otherwise Mazda had an I4 engine cutaway and I heard others asking "is that the rotary?" I asked Mazda why they didn't have a cutaway 13B-MSP and they said they didn't know. The only rotary stuff they had were some copies of the same pamphlet that they gave out two years ago. Weak.
  • The new Camaro doesn't excite me too much, but I was impressed that it has independent rear suspension and should get 30 MPG on the highway.
  • The Honda Fit's seats were fun to play with.
  • Lastly (and perhaps most amusing), Pontiac wouldn't let anyone look inside the trunk of the Solstice, never-mind operating the convertible! I guess they didn't want to look bad compared to the Miata, which has a reasonably sized trunk (with the top up or down) and an incredibly easy-to-operate top. I put up the roof with one hand from the driver's seat. Someone in the crowd said to me, "Nice demonstration"

I went 2 years ago and last year. I didn't see much that changed and there isn't much on the horizon that really made me want to go see it this year. My friend went and took some pics. I like the way the Challenger looks.

2 things:
1.since the mx-5 and rx-8 share the same platform it cant be hard for mazda to put a renesis in there
2.mazda has said that they will never put a rotary in the mx-5
but things can shange

I rather have an rx-8 coupe 2 seater -200lbs, 210 to 220 rwhp
