I bought my snow tires with rims for like 900 shipped with road hazard, mounted and balanced as well from discout tire. Highly recomend them as well. there is a huge night and day difference in driving. I have been in over 6 inches and made it fine

Technically, the "curse of the silver" isn't a curse, as all real curses require a story—true or otherwise—that explains why the curse exists. (Like the curse on the Red Sox for trading Babe Ruth to the Yankees. Or the curse on the Cubs with the billy goat.)
What happened way-back-when that there should be a curse on silver RX-8s?

WAY BACK WHEN... Someone was driving a Silver 8, crashed it, and posted on here about it. Thus began the curse.

my story of painful survival in the snow
this weekend i experienced the worst that winter had to give, driving to west virginia to the ski slopes. didnt think it was gona snow and i had stock tires on....
so i average about 90 untill i get to the curvy/ hilly mountain roads and im suddenly in a snow blizzard at night.
2 inches of ice and snow on the roads, unpaved. the last 35 miles took me 2.5 hours . driving an average of 5 mph,
up the hills the car was rolling backwards and fishtailing toward the side of the incline and downhill i couldnt tap the breaks nor could i change gear cuz i would loose traction and spin out.. luckily i made it to the last hill and got stuck. this hill was so steep and at an angle so the *** of the car was slipping to the side.
it all made me feel better when my cocky friend with his 4x4 r32 gti was speeding and lost control, too bad he crashed but i made it alright...
definately getting snowtires next time

Like most have said tires make a huge difference. Tires are like shoes... Why would you ever want to run in the cold, slush, snow, and ice of winter in a pair of Nike Air Force Ones... Doesn't make sense.
FYI I like the Dunlop M3 Wintersports more than Pirelli's 210 Snowsports.

ok, maybe not crashed lol but this is my first 8 i got about a WEEK AGO!!! my first rwd car keep in mind...I realllllllly did not want to drive it today, but was left with no choice...i stayed on the left lane with my hazards on the entire time, the entire trip was fine until my exit came up...i SLOWLY tried to exit, no goo...BOOOM...luckily i got out of the car, and it was a little scuff on the bumper, no biggie (although its killing me inside)...but i guess thats what i get for thinking 2 subs and a sub box in my trunk would give me traction
guess 8's are just not meant for winter...

It's all about the tires man. The car, not so much.
That's probably why your R32 friend crashed. It's not the awd drivetrain. It's the tires.
Prior to CAFE in 1975, most cars were RWD. They got around fine in the snow, with proper tires.

Jesus Christ. You didn't think tires make a difference? They should have forced tire education in American schools! Sorry for the attitude, but that's just dumb.
My wintertires are nowhere near the best and I've got them with 225/45 18 because I mostly drive in rain anyway (and they are freaky about original look here), but I can drive calmly over pure ice with them, good luck trying that with summer tires. And please, winter tires on BOTH axles :P

Look at that eh?
How could I find something so sad, so dang funny!
"Titanium grey is just a darker silver" .... hahaha! HILARIOUS!

Dude, when you buy new performacne tires, they have a warning on them that says 'warning- not for use in snow or ice'.
These tires CANNOT drive in the snow and technically shouldnt be used if the road temp is 32 degrees or colder, YOU WILL LOOSE CONTROL.
Invest in 17 inch rims and snow tires or buy a beater to last you through the winter like a lot of us do.
