Just crashed my NEW rx8..

Well 6 days old and its practially totalled...Some kid blew a stop sign and then freaked out when he saw me slam on the brakes... so he just stopped in the middle of the road..I swerved right but my dirvers side impacted his rear drivers side, I then bounced off and hit the curb, went up and over and back down...My drivers side is tottaled, all 4 wheels have damage, and then there is minor front end damage..Not including any underbody damage that could have occured...

My question is, should airbgas deploy regardless of whether or not somebody is wearing a seatbelt??

That sucks.

But yes, airbags deploy based on sensor readings no matter if the seatbelt is being worn or not.

Airbags deploy regardless of seatbelt.

check the driver's manual.

It specifically states that the airbags blow off at certain conditions. An angled impact will most likely not deploy the front airbag. You pretty much have to hit the guy dead on to deploy your front sensors to delpoy air bags.

That is some bad luck, hope you get it fixed and/or replaced. Curious as to the damage, get a chance to take any pictures of the carnage yet?

Glad your alive and ok. Sorry to hear about your 8.

WTF! I hope they throw the book at the kid. This may sound harsh, but maybe he won't kill the next person.

What color? and get a massage and see a chiropractor. This makes a BIG diffrence dealing w/ the stress.

That just sucks

But on the bright side, you can get another 8 if it is totaled, but there's only one of you, so the important thing is you're OK.

Geez. What advice: See a Chiropractor, lol. That's just an excuse to try to get him to get high medical payments. Chiropractors have shown themselves to be lame, saying they can treat about any ailment in the world and even sell nutritional supliments to boot. Even the most reputable Chiropractic associations are saying these are false claims. They are proving themselves to be major quacks for the most part.

There are some very good chiroprators out there and I was always sceptical. I went to one when I had horrible shin splints and doctors did nothing for me but tell me to rest and take a break from sports. After 3 visists to my mother's chiropractor the pain was almost gone, and I played basketball every day the entire summer with not a single sign of them. Sure there are some bad ones out there, but some can and truely do help people where conventional medicine has failed.

Very few of them Ike. Most Chiropractors have you come back over and over for visits. For example: Back pain, regular docs prescribe a pain or muscle relaxer, some prescibe taking it easy for a short time, Chiropractors in general have the person come back for months on end for treatment. The result of studies say there is no difference in treatment. This shows that the excess treatment is not needed and a money pit. I agree there a limited things a "good" chiropractor can do for you, but is has gotten way out of hand. Would not be surprized that there are serious limits placed on the practice in the next few years.

Curiosity is getting the better of me... Were you wearing your seatbelt? I'm thinking not, since you asked your question. Just curious, though. Hope you and your ride are back to 100% soon!

Did the cops assign any fault to you (excessive speed, failure to maintain a safe distance, etc.) or did they pin it all on the other guy for blowing the stop sign?

What were the conditions (wet road/time of day/lighting)?

On the airbag question, hopefully you're not asking because you wern't wearing one.... I'm going to guess that you're asking about whether an airbag should have gone off for an unoccupied seat (with therefore no seatbelt fastened). The answer for that is 'it depends' - most cars the airbag will go off purely based on impact, with no sensors to detect whether a seat is occupied. Some newer cars (not sure about the RX-8) sense whether a seat is occupied or not, or with a small person, and deploy the airbag at the appropriate force or not at all, whichever is appropriate.

As for the wreck - that sucks. I feel (felt) your pain, sort of: https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...5&postcount=19

Ill be honest, I wasnt wearing one....I had just left the car wash, headed home...3 blocks away... From one cop to another, I told the officer the truth about what happened...conditions were dry and sunny..it was difficult too stop a car traveling at 42mph (me) in just 19 or so feet....

I can't believe people still don't wear seatbelts, you probably still didn't learn your lesson either

well sorry to hear about your trouble, but next time you may not be so lucky if you don't buckle up!

How few in your opinion? 20%? 10%? 5%? What studies? I'm not familiar with ones about months of treatment, but I am familiar with ones that show chiropractors get workers with back injuries back on the job more quickly than doctors. This is inline with my own experiences: I've seen chiropractors a few times over the years when my back or neck were bothering me and my doctor's techniques didn't help. The chiropractor did the trick each time; they seem to have more knowledge of back adjustment than your typical HMO physical therapist.

One of those times, the chiropractor suggested that I set up a schedule for regular visits, which I declined. Was that chiropractor trying to turn me into a money generator? I dunno, but while some chiropractors push routine preventative treatment, doctors sometimes oversubscribe medication or suggest surgery as a solution when something less drastic would be as, if not more, effective. Anytime you get medical treatment, you need to be skeptical.

Ultimately, I don't think we should dismiss chiropractors as a bunch of quacks because "vertebral subluxations" (the 100-year-old theory originally behind chiropractic treatment) is far-fetched... a lot of theories back then were wacky. And the AMA hasn't exactly come off as impartial... you want to talk about out-of-hand, look at the history of their attempts to squash all things chiropractic.
