I just got the car back from a nearby Mazda dealer, which they perform "R" Flash. They also told me to bring it back beggining of August so they can perform the recall on some sensor on the gas tank heating up or so.
Also they going to replace the battery, spark plugs and my ps tailight which has water inside. they seem really cool and up to date compare to the last dealer i went to. Anyone local in Houston near the 59 North freeway/Kingwood. They're called Expo Mazda. Not really big, but service was fast and up to date.

the hotter the gas the worse the mileage right ? Maybe that explains some of the MPG issues

I know people cool there fuel for more HP.

Many thanks to Zoom44 and Gomez for great support.
At my 32,000km service today, I received a reflash using part # SW-N3Z2EN. I am in Canada. Does this mean I got an "N" flash? They wrote R on the yellow sticker they placed on the door.
Also, I understand that the car "learns" how we each drive and somehow adjusts. I don't pretend to know how this works but I wonder if that's why everyone sees such a change after every flash. Does the reflash actually reset the car so it has to learn and adjust again?

canadian cars have teh same flash levels as the US Federal cars (non- california) if you saw my prvious post. so your dealer eiteh flashed you to N or they could have given you something newer and their computer prints the same thing on the paperwork for flashes for every car. many service centers do that. but that is the file name for a 2004MY 6mt 8 Nflash

yes the learned bits are reset everytime the pcm gets a new calibration. what you mentioned is partially true except some of the flashes have leaned out the a/f ration inparts of the rpm band.

Just an update:

My gas mileage is better by about 30Miles/50 kms per tank. (2 tanks so far)

It seems consistent to me that the car is more responsive and is a bit faster. More fun to drive.

Yes this is true, I have been getting 20mpg on about 75% highway and 25% city driving on 3 refills so far. On a 14 gallon tank of gas, I have been getting about 275miles, which is significantly more then my previous 245 miles per 14-gallon tank average. This is at least a 2mpg increase from the previous "N" flash that I got before. This "R" flash is great and everyone should go get it ASAP. The car also seems to be more responsive and fun to drive.

Can everybody else who has gotten the "R" flash confirm the 2 mpg improve as well as the more fun to drive experience?:D

R Flash + Hot Plugs + REVi intake and ram air + 80/20 HW city drive + 14 gallons of 91 gas = 310 Miles

BIG SMILES :D

Will they necessarily update your plugs and battery for the recall? If not, (those who had this done) did your dealers perform this service for you simply b/c you asked, or b/c you were having problems?

I would think in order to get the hotter plugs you'd have to have a compelling reason rather than simple fuel economy. I believe I remember the hotter plugs were offered as a remedy for flooding in cold weather. Hardly a reason to ask for that this time of year.

^ Not really. I was having rough idle and random misfire. Dealership replaced the plugs after checking. I didn't even ask for it. I was more interested in the R Flash than the plugs back then, which I didn't get until my latest visit.

Just received the "R" flash yesterday, but there is an issue. When I picked up the car the HVAC controls were not working, ie no A/C or air direction control. Is it possible that these controls can get screwed up when reflashing?

They probably disconnected something erroneously. I'm sure they can fix it/reconnect it quickly.

OK an update. They had to change the climate control assembly (under warantee) and now everything work OK. It was more than a disconnected wire.

Ya, that's what they put down on paper and tell you so they could earn more service hours. Might be wrong, but a flash should not have done wht it did.

In any event, glad to see that its working.
