Just got a silver 04

Hiya, well I bought a silver 04 with 15k miles on her to match my silver 83 rx-7. ^.^ It is a GT model with the most every option mazda offered. Now I have a few questions before I pick the car up on monday. First are there any recalls I should be aware of, and how do I check if the car has gone in for them? Next is there an MP3 player in the car or do I have to buy that from mazda (I found them in the accessories page). Any thing else I should know before I pick up the car on monday?

Thanks

Mike

ugh.... ur new to this forum.. so i'll give u a break. Check the search engines next time for all this. There are technically 4 recalls that you can ask the mazda dealer about. The main one I shall inform u of is the ENGINE RECALL... look this up, tell ur dealership about it, and pretty much 90% chance u get a free engine. As for your an mp3 player.. no there isnt one. The best way to get one is to buy an ipod or something, and get some type of device to plug into the back of your receiver. check the search engine, there are alot of them for rx8s on the forums somewhere, i myself have an ipod and an integration kit from Audiolink. Works beautifully.

Hope this helps a bit.

phroz, if there isn't a oem mp3 player, then I've been imagining playing mp3's in my car for the last two years.

The mp3 player does exist, but it's not installed on any US car from the factory. It's only available as a dealer installed option, or you can buy it online and install it yourself. There is a DIY posted on the forum for that.

I got the dealer to install the mp3 player in my 2005 as a negotiated "extra" when I bought the car. It works great except the display is a little funky, but the full integration with the steering wheel buttons makes it worthwhile. Also I had the car checked under the "engine recall" and everything was OK. No new engine for me, thank you, sorry about the other 90%.

Congrats and Welcome to the Cult!!

Change the oil on a regular basis
Check the oil at least every three fill-ups
Don't shut the engine down unless it has warmed up
Rev it a lot it's good for it
Use the search feature on the forum
Your first search should be about the Curse of the Silver
Oh did I mention change the oil!!!!

Enjoy the Drive!!

I also have a dealer installed Mp3 CD player. Works very nicely.

I too am new-ish (a couple of months now) Silver 04 owner! Welcome to the family!

Remember to check your oil every second gas-up until you get a handle for how quickly your 8 eats oil. The oil level indicator is pretty useless so don't rely on it.

Here is the list of TSBs:

Also, if you want to connect an ipod I believe there is an OEM connector for them.

Sorry for not searching, thought it was easier to cover it all in one post. Ya I know about the oil, the first motor in my 7 had to have the oil changed every 2k miles due to the dreaded dowl-pin leak that the 12A's get. As for the iPod issue I found that niffty AuxMod which sounds like exactly what I am looking for.

And thanks for the welcome ^.^

I have a '04 Sunlight Silver as well. You will notice quickly that traffic has a habit of turning left in front of you, kinda like riding a motorcycle. Neutral colors just don't catch the eye that well, so re-wire your fog lights ASAP to act as driving lights. This does seem to help a little.

Enjoy!
