Just realizing how horrible the RENESIS is..

If you're referring to the Speedsource one.. I was just trying to get under our troll's skin, haha.
In case of something else, I'd rather clarify before wondering exactly what I should be responding to.

Though, I will say, I didn't get a good look at the Mazdatrix one, but one of the other FD Rx8's does use the stock suspension set-up and whatnot. Wish I'd taken pictures of it. Next time I'll have to ask how much of the drivetrain is left stock as well, and how much they had to actually modify to be able to be so, rough, you could say, with it.
But yeah, I was for the most part trolling back to have fun, I know how many differences there are between the ones in our driveways, and the ones they're running.
Edit to your edit:
Is it really? I do remember noticing ONE of them there, that I didn't actually see run, just in the pits, had a 13B. I know there was an FC running a modded 13BT, but that's not an 8.
#305
Haha, yeah, that one I just pulled out because it uses an Rx8 body, rotary engine, and wins races, haha.
I do have a pic actually, where you can somewhat see the suspension, and whatnot, of one of the FD Rx8's, if you'd like to see for the hell of it.
And yeah. It's a shame, I wish my parents would've been able to help me get an R3, I do envy him for that.
Hell, they got me my first car, which was under a grand, and that's it, haha.

So I think what r3 mike is saying is that he bought a completely terrible car where the factory didn't come close at all to figuring out how to get power out of the engine. They just put together a half-assed piece of equipment in two tons of metal and shoved it out there.
Unlike Mazda, where they pulled every spare scrap of power out of a 1.3l engine, setting, and holding, a world record for most power per liter n/a.
r3mike....1 last try to see if you get this point:
PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS AND PREFERENCES THAN YOU DO!
If everyone loved what you loved, then every single person in the world would be driving the Camera, would be sleeping with your girlfriend, including other women (since they would have to love her too, in fact your girlfriend would have to love herself more than you, so she wouldn't be with you)
everyone would wear the same color and styles of coloring, work the same job, live in the same house, in the same city....
I think I'm going to link this thread over on the Camaro forums, just to see if you have impressed any of them....

IF you do not know how to drive a Rotary engine then you would think that.. The fact that it red lines at a Tested 12,000 RPM.. and or only 9,000 rmp for a stock car, makes a huge difference.. Those testers that drive the car like a V8 will never get any power from it.. But again.. I point out that the Rx8 keeps Winning Races !!!!.. With Real Drivers that understand the Power Band of a Rotary...
Sales definitely say something about the 8. Some of it can be explained as perceptions from previous RX cars, but I don't think that's nearly enough account for the lack of sales. Obviously there were quite a few of us that were satisfied with the acceleration of the 8, but I think a slight increase in power would have done quite a lot for sales. Some might try to argue that sales don't mean anything but it shows that, for one reason or another, people preferred one car over another. Part of that is most likely the (slight) lack of power/acceleration in the 8. General perceptions seem to indicate that the 8 has a lack of power. It's important to remember that sales will also affect future production. No matter how dedicated we are to the RX line of cars, it will come to an end if they are unable to pull enough sales from the population outside of the existing rotary fans and community.
I'd like to point out that the 8 does not have a lot of power. I know this is arguing semantics, but that's simply the way it is. Power happens to be the variable of acceleration that many focus on. If the renesis had been put in a lighter car, the power might have been overlooked. The 8 has a moderate level of power but if I were asked if the 8 has much power, I would not respond with "a lot".
One thing that most people in this thread need to realize is that people have different tastes and different ways of enjoying things. Just because you don't enjoy drag racing, for whatever reason, doesn't mean it's shouldn't be enjoyed by those that do. The same goes for auto-x or road courses. It's also worth noting the fact that most (performance minded) drivers enjoy both acceleration and handling, regardless of what their main focus is. If you reduce the handling ability or power/acceleration of a car enough, people will stop enjoying it. In spite of what some people have said in here, I'm pretty sure there is a minimum level of power/acceleration. I think most people have a certain balance of power/handling they'll enjoy from a car. The 8 has a moderate level of power with a high level of handling performance. I personally favor power a bit more than handling, but I still need a respectable level of handling to enjoy a car. Many need little power and a lot of handling while others care little about handling and need lots of power.

Much like the RX7 Sales were not records, the Rotary is an acquired taste and requires skill to drive..
No its not a Dragster..
Nuff said.

Assuming you're talking about "testers" from review magazines and stuff like that... they're really not all too bad at driving the car. The performance they tend to get is at least a reasonably accurate representation of what can be expected by actual owners. In stock vs stock form, many of the comparable/competing cars beat the 8, even when driven by professional drivers.

Requires skill to drive? What does it require more than other cars? A basic understanding of power bands and knowledge of a car's power band is required to drive any car optimally. Some cars might be a bit more forgiving, but that's not necessarily a good thing. If a car has a broader power band and produces similar power throughout that power band, it will be faster. I'd say it takes more skill to account for turbo lag/boost than it is to drive a rotary.
Don't get me wrong... I love the rotary engine and it's one of the biggest reasons I miss the 8, but some of these arguments are just silly or fanboy-ish.

^careful what you wish for...
it might leak oil on your face and break down after the warranty...
then you have buy a rebuild kit and log onto a shaver forum for help on your rebuild n' deal with douche bags telling you how inferior the rotary shaver is to conventional shavers..
...gawd i hate those douchebags.

So i guess you Shift all your cars at 9K ?
The Point is the Power Band in the Rotary is something that most Non Rotary Drivers need to learn how to use..
DUH ..
Fanboyish.. We were simply trying to fend of the Trolls!
Oh,, Why did you get rid of your 8 ?

Shouldn't we just have to be worried about the oil consumption, possibly needing to premix, and the milky stuff coming off of it?
Now, the real bad part is, after you shave in the morning, get the milky stuff on your face, and you go somewhere, and people start looking at you funny.

Well, fanboism doesn't exactly fend off the trolls... it feeds the trolls if anything. Giving objective reasons is the most effective way and fanboism typically takes a strongly subjective stance.
Why did I get rid of the 8? I wouldn't say any 1 exact reason, but a few things that added up. I had a 2004 model and by the time I sold it I had owned it for almost 5 years. At first, I was more than happy with the car. The first mod I did was an intake, mostly for sound. Over the years, I started to want just a little bit more power as well as an improved sound. I really enjoyed the sound I got from all the various exhaust set ups and other mods I did, but still wanted more power. I even installed nitrous which helped quite a bit, but I rarely found time to fill my tank or had the money that I felt like spending on it, so it ended up being not quite what I wanted. Approaching the end of my 4th year of ownership, I was starting to get a little concerned about how long my engine would last and having to deal with getting it warrantied or, if I waited long enough, being out of warranty. So at that point it was mostly a concern of reliability and power.
A few months after I started to consider the idea of getting something else, I got rear ended. That was the point where I decided I wanted to move on. There was frame damage, so even after the repairs I was never quite as satisfied with the 8 like I had been before. At that point, I considered various things I'd want out of my next car. My main qualifications were more power/accleration, respectable handling, more space and something that was still comfortable for a daily driver. I was also hoping for better gas mileage than the 8, which wasn't all to hard to do considering I barely broke 20 mpg highway mileage. So basically, it was an issue of being ready for something new, having already considered the thought of a new car and then getting rear ended kind of finalized the decision.

This thread got all serious n **** on me... I drive it 'cuz I like it. I am praying mine doesn't **** all over the place anytime soon, it has 88k on a 2004 RX-8. No outstanding recalls thank god, they have all been performed. Aside from some scratches on the hood (previous owners jealous ex-girlfriend I think) the car is in amazing shape for being almost 8 years old. I am thinking the previous owner took great care of this car. I did buy it from a used lot (We bought from this lot before with great customer service for a used lot) with a 90 day bumper to bumper at the time of purchase.
It is an amazing car to drive. My commute goes from stop 'n go traffic to an open highway and it was fun in both. Shifting at least gives me something to do while in traffic. Of course I like the looks I get from BMW owners and Camaro owners alike. There is a kindred like feeling when you see another 8 on the road and both drivers give that nod that feels like you just passed a family member. True it is not as fast off the line as my 87' Trans Am was, but it is so much more fun to drive and I still blow the doors off cars that are foolish enough to challenge the car. It is a great mix of handling and power, sorta have to pay a "Hybrid tax" (MMO Gamers will get that reference) on the car. You give up some power and gain more performance. I am comfortable with that.
Truth of the matter is cars are like clothes. People have different tastes, different needs etc... so they buy the car that works for them. Be it a Prius, a Camaro or an RX-8, but I am not gonna go to some other cars forum and bash their choice. Bash their skill, sure. Their car... meh. Skill owns gear.
This is a stoner post if I ever saw one.. did I just write this? >.>

I don't shift all of my cars at 9k, but it's not like it takes a lot of effort or skill to figure out that you just need to wait a little longer to shift. The rotary isn't the only engine that revs to 9k. The optimal shift points are something that should be learned on any car, really.
It doesn't reallly take more effort or skill to get power out of a rotary, but it does take a change in driving habits. I can easily see how people test drive an 8 and come away with the impression that it's horribly slow, because they aren't used to keeping revs north of 6,800 RPMs to get power.
Most drivers are afraid the engine will fall apart with that kind of driving, and with most engines they'd be right. Even high-revving short-stroke piston engines can't take too much prolonged redline driving.
#323
It's not just about shift points though. With a rotary you need to wind it up and keep it wound up to get the power on tap; that means frequently dropping gears (often several at a time) to keep it spooled up. That kind of driving would tear up most piston engines, so piston engine drivers generally avoid that kind of driving.

Oh, 8Maniac Sorry about the Rear issue with your 8 that sucks.. Anyway enjoy whatever you get next....

But I love that, or even just when you come across another Mazda owner, one who's an enthusiast, and you get that. But it's definitely nice coming across another Rx8, as they're not totally common, and it's a pretty good bet that if they own it, they like it(Or they just absolutely hate it, one of the two, haha.)
