Just Saying Hello

This is my first post, hello RX8Club.com! I've been looking into getting a new car in the past couple of months, my 2000 Jetta just isn't doing it for me anymore. After looking at everything currently available, I've settled on either an Audi A4 or a new RX-8. Both are cars I've long admired.

Since I'm already leaning towards the RX-8 I went and test drove a 6 speed at my local mazda dealer this past week. They only had 3 RX-8's, all of which were 2005 models, and the dealer I was working with did not seem very knowledgeable about them. Frankly they were a Hyundai/Mazda dealer and they seemed to be much more concerned with the Hyundai side of their operations.

Needless to say though, the car was a blast to drive, accelerated and handled as I expected it would. I plan on getting one between now and the new year, but first want to visit another dealer. I will say that they cut the price from $32,000 to $28,000 which I thought to be a decent reduction. Not sure what package it was but it did have the 18" wheels with nice potenza rubber.

Anyways, just saying hi for now. I look forward to asking some questions about performance upgrades in the near future.

I had buyer's remorse on my first 40 mile drive to work. The milage is not as advertised. You can expect about 19 or 20 freeway if you are easy on the pedal. But from that first day on, never again would i feel bad about my purchase. The RX8 seems to get more powerful as the miles go by. I love every little quirky thing about it. I love the sound of the engine and the response of the suspension.

28k sounds about right for the base model with a couple of extras. Buy it. Love it. It will fill your life with rotary joy.

the a4 was one of my top 3 when i was researching autos. personally, i don't really care for the new grille, but the previous model years have a timeless shape. the 1.8t is about the only a4 in the same price range as the 8 and the 8 outperforms the audi in every technical aspect, which factored heavily in my decision. in the end, leather and quattro is nice, but high revving rear-wheel mayhem is better

I have an 8 and an A4 3.0 Quatro. There are only two reasons for me to drive the Audi. 1) more than 5 inches of snow on the roads and 2) when I'm too lazy to move the A4 when it is parked behind the 8 in the driveway. The 8 is much more fun to drive and is more reliable......hmmm.....anybody looking for an 02 A4??? Oops, wrong forum
