Hey guys, I am looking for a rx8 and I just sold my s13 two days ago. It was kitted with rims, lowered and had an awesome daytona blue paint job with white wheels. I love the blue color on the rx8's. I have come across while reading, all the problems of the 04 and 05 but heard it was mostly auto's. I am also looking at 350z's. I think I'm going to stay with looking at 06's but my price range is about 11,500. I want a 6 speed for sure.

Most earlier Rx-8's have had their kinks worked out with engine replacements and whatnot. Though the newer the Rx-8 the longer you have on that extended engine warranty.

Man that is a clean S13 must of been hard to let that go. Was it still a KA24? anyway i have an 04 with 80k and never had any problems with it aside from the coils.Go test drive an 04-05 before you make your decision it might save you some money for future mods.

 

If i were you, i'm keeping the S13. But anyway, whatever rx8 you choose, good luck with it and have fun modding.

 

why tell him to keep his s13? I had 2 s13 ka24t and sr20det. RX8 WINS!!

Nice S13. I had a 240sx hatch with a CA18DET swap (with upgraded turbo and lots of other goodies) back in the day painted a similar color blue and also sporting white rims for a while

The RX-8 chassis is worlds better than the S13 chassis.

Sooo with that being said, my dad is paying the extra amount on the rx8 since I sold my s13. Today, he bought this before I could even look at it in person or drive it. Not like my dad at all to do that but he knows his cars. So here it is, it's a 2005 Touring red rx8.

I'm confused because I thought the Tourings came with a sunroof or moonroof?
I'm new to rx8's so forgive me if this is a dumb question. It's a 6 speed with 40k miles

hmm looks like you have the aero package. Should weigh less having no sunroof.

 

Well that's cool then. Is this model a Shinka? I'm trying to run the carfax but I can't seem to find for free. I want to make sure it has the recalls done... Can any of you guys check it out for me? I have the vin.

Man, it was so difficult letting her go!! I almost didn't sell it to the guy because I wanted to keep driving it haha. I miss the rear tire rub and the exhaust and everything else

 

I can't wait to drive it home tomorrow, I've never driven an rx8 or anything rotary so it's going to be exciting! Keeping up with the maintenance will be the most challenging. For example, the oil and all that stuff. I'm not sure which oil I will use, I've seen the arguments on the different oils

Hey, yeah I picked it up. I only have phone pics as of now but I will update you guys with some as soon as I can post some. It's an 05 Velocity Red Mica and it has 42k miles. It is completely stock. It looks awesome and the paint is so cool in the sunlight! The headlights were really hazey so I buffed them up with some PlastX and that worked pretty well but the scratches are hard to get out. (I seem to only notice the scratches when I'm looking at the headlights from right by the car from the top.) Also, the rear taillight has some dried water in it that almost looks like dirt. It has not
Had the taillight recall and I'm not sure how to go about it. Any input on anything guys?

HOTness!!! congrats again. I imagine your pops getting in the car and driving it. Im sure he had a super smile when he got out of the car lol. I havent driven my 8 for about a month, been working from home and I miss it!! Enjoy. What mods you plan to do?

 

lol I can see that exactly. hahaha. Well I just plan on getting some HKS exhaust and an intake. My s13 was too low for Oklahomas crappy streets lol so my 8 is pretty good where it sits. I also want some clear corners or some all red taillights or something like that. Not sure on all the mods yet any suggestions for appearance that aren't too pricey?

 

I would stay away from the "red outs" for the tail lights. I really haven't seen any modified 8 tails that actually looked good. And on the question about things that aren't "too pricey", your not gonna find any. There is good aftermarket support for the Rx-8, but not enough for there to be alot of knock off stuff available, like there is for civics or silvias. You pay for what you get, keep that in mind.

 

Thanks for the input. I wonder if they make any tails that look like the newer rx8 tails? The circular led's that kinda look like GTR tails.

Also, my friends suggested for exhaust that I leave the stock system and add a y-pipe or a mid pipe? I wanted Hks Hi power catback thoughh

 

No, there are no circular LED taillights for the S1 yet (within a reasonable price at least). Whatever you do, do not drill your taillights to get water out of it. Search on that.

Search on the exhaust and everything else too.
