Just spilled oil all over the engine bay

I misjudged how full the oil container was, and poured without checking. Oil went everywhere, specifically to the right of the inlet when facing the car from the front. I filled about 1/4qt.

I was wondering if oil just floating around in there is going to cause any problems, i.e. clogging something, screwing something electrical, causing the car to spontaneously detonate in a nuclear fireball...anything I should be worried about?

Thanks!

Just in case I need this :

Use a paper towel to soak it up.

I've spilled oil when filling/changing oil. You'll be fine, just soak up what you can.

I'm with nycgps - some non-flammable solvent in the same area is the ticket.

I've had a bottle tumble out of the funnel and do the same dance.....

That sucks man. Do your best to soak up the oil that you can and use non-flammable solvents (Simple Green?) as the others have mentioned.

Well I drove it to school today, and it seems like nothing is hurt. I made sure to let it warm before I moved it and didn't go above 4,000 before it was hot.

After that I tried to redline it a few times just to make sure that everything was OK. There was a bit of a smell, I assume that was the oil burning off. Everything else was normal though, it drove like a dream.

It turned out that I also didnt spill as much as I had thought. In all my intelligence I decided to fill the oil at night, in the dark, and misjudged how much missed.

it'll be fine.

But you might want to consider spilling a thicker weight oil on the outside, I hear bad things about 5w20. And try adding some premix too.

Clean it up as best you can, you should be fine. I think 90% of the people here have spilled some oil before

Ive done that a million times. A couple times, on a trip and my low oil light flickers, so Id pull over and attempt to put oil in with no funnel! That was a serious fail.

I've never used any sort of funnel, so you can imagine where some of my oil goes every fill up.

Just plug the bottle with your thumb stick it upside down over the hole and remove your finger...no spills and no need for a funnel.
