Just test drove and now I have a ?

Ok, so I drove the 8 on Sat and really liked it. I want to get the car this week but the dealer says that it may be a problem to find one in Titanuim with the red and black interior. If they can't find one then they will try and swap interior with another car. I'm not feeling that move at all. What do you guys think? Also they are asking roughly 34K sticker for the car without negotiating yet.

I was also told that it was near impossible to find a car that had the Navi and all the options I chose. I basically asked for the car fully loaded with appearance, strakes, accents, etc..... Should I try and contact Mazda themselves to find a car. This dealer is supposed to be the largest around and did have roughly 30 RX-8'd on the lot. Just none of them the way I want.

Some of that stuff like strakes, accents, appearance package, rear spoiler. etc. can be added later, and even at a significant savings if you are able to do some of the installs yourself. Personally I would be hesitant to have them swap out the interior. It might be OK if they know what they're doing, but who knows going in if they do.

I suspect that the 2-3 month lapse in RX-8 production due to the fire at Ujima No.1 plant is beginning to affect the supply of cars. And that may be why the dealer is having a hard time finding the combination you want. I have a friend who is having the same problem. You may have to wait or compromise on an interior color and add some of the options later.

As far as having Mazda "themselves" find your car, I don't know what more they can do than their dealer network. The dealer can search the inventory of dealers for a larger area than is available on the Mazda web site, so the dealer is probably the best bet for finding a car. Of course, it might be worth a try to just call the general Mazda customer service number. My guess is that they will refer you to a dealer.

First of all, what part of the country are you? RX8 production has been interupted because of the factory fire. Depending on the popularity of the 8 in your part of the country, availability may or may not be a problem.

Go to the mazdausa website and check inventory and then call the internet sales reps from the dealers that show the inventory that you want.

Do not let the dealer swap interiors under any circumstance. That is just an invitation for them to scratch and tear just about every part they touch. Even in the best shop you will wind up with loose parts and squeeks and rattles. Quality control in the dealerships is nothing compared to the factory.

As far as the options, the car only has a few factory options, everything else is dealer installed anyway. Fully loade from the factory means the GT package + navigation. Beyond that, the dealer installs all the cosmetic stuff. Start with the GT with NAV and decide what else you want. You might want to leave the Mazda appearance package. There are a lot of other choices out there that will enable you to have a more unique look.

Be sure to check the websites that provide dealer invoice costs before negotiating.

Good luck.

Why can't you go to the Mazda site and look for one?

I agree with Go48 on the interior. They are not really allowed to do that as the VIN lists the color inside and out. They would then have two cars that would not match in Mazda's system.

And 34k sounds a little rich to me. IMHO

Some of the bling items are port installed but as far as the navi goes...I guess there is one brave soul that got that worked out.

i wouldn't jump the gun; hold out and get EXACTLY what YOU want. It hard cause you want it right now but you shouldn't comprimise; after all your paying 30+.

I'm with Snap-On and Beachdog on this one.
Another thing you may want to consider is an '04 and do the mods yourself.
There are two new 04's here and I suspect there must be others around the country to be had.
You'll save a few bucks and will be putting a piece of yourself into the car.

Call around yourself. Dealers want to move what THEY have 1st, and many time they will not tell you the absolute truth when it comes to readily available cars in the network.

Find a GT +nav in the color combo you want, and add the stick on stuff yourself. I bet you will find a much better deal this way.

I agree... go with the 04 and do the install stuff yourself. You will save oodles of cash AND you will get more satisfaction out of the job. Mazmart (www.mazmart.com) has just about anything you could ever need for mazdas. Of course, a con of this route is the amount of time you will surely put into the car. I would safely assume you can get an 04 with all the options I would recommend not installing yourself (navigation, sunroof, etc) for 23-26k. Just food for thought.

Where are you located? You can use the car finder on the Mazda web page to search and find the right car. No way would I let them swap bits out of another car. If what you want is not on the lot, just go to another dealer. The dealer you visited wants to sell you what they have, if they have to go swap then there will be miles on your car and the expense of paying someone to swap the cars - why not just find the car yourself and save the hassle?

If you go to Carsdirect.com and build the car like you want, the price should come up $100 under INVOICE - not MSRP like your dealer, but $100 UNDER dealer cost. Then just build it like you want and let them try to find the car for you at this pre-negotiated price.

Like others have said, you can save $5,000 or so if you will take a left over 04. That is a lot of money to save and there is almos no difference between the model years. Down the road, the model year difference will make at most $2k difference in resale value - so you save now and it it does not cost you much down the road.

I like the all black interior better, the red/black didn't do it for me - but to each his/her own.

As was mentioned, all the other stuff - wing, appearance kit, roatary accents, can be added later.

Dennis

www.mazdausa.com click on search inventory and try to find one yourself. The first dealer I went to said the same type of thing to me, "well we don't have one, but we can do a dealer trade and get it, but you won't get as good of a deal, blah blah blah." So I went online and found it myself

I'm in NJ and stil searching as we speak. I wasn't going to let them do the swap. I never let anyone drive my cars, let alone would I let them tear apart an interior to swap. I can only imagine the sqeaks and rattles after that.

If you are willing to travel to get the car you want, do the on-line Inventory Searches and change your ZIP code to major cities just outside your area until you find the car. You WILL find the car you want. Only thing is that you may have to travel some distance to get it in that case. You can make the deal over the phone and pick up the car when it's ready. Good luck!

You might want to check PA and DE. I found that the search function is a little quirky. For example, it found no matches for Lexington, KY, but brought in the cars at the Lexington dealers when I searched for Frankfort. I ended up calling most of the dealers in the Ohio-KY area to verify, and to get the mileage on the cars.

The dealer told me that if they found one far away it'll just have to be driven in. I understand that fact, but still not happy about it.

Better yet, You find it, buy it at that dealer, and be done with break-in by the time you're home!

Yeah I know what you mean...I hate thinking that someone else drove my car before me...there was like 50 miles on it. Why don't you go down there and buy it from the dealer and drive it back yourself

That's what I will most likely do if I can make a good deal. The guy I went to Sat. sold my family 2 Mazda's previously, so I thought I'd throw him some repeat business. I still have to keep my interests in mind and I want that car a certain way so.....

Did the search online for the car myself and found none in my area. not within 150miles anyway.
