Just a thought for all those HP haters!
Hopefully this doesnt fall into the crying about HP getting closed type thread cause i am not crying about the pep in my car i absolutely love it. So i have a subscription to import tuner and this last one i got with the 490hp street s2000 on the cover brought some information to me that i was quite pleased to see, and makes me ask a question that maybe someone could answer when reading this thread. The information i found which i was so delighted to see, other than the sexy model that they covered in this mag(dont tell my wife i said that), was the 350z that they did a power page on. Now these cars are claimed to make 300 hp stock from nissan. the initial dyno done on this car with a dynopack dynomameter recorded its WHP at 234.4 hp. that means that it lost 66 hp in the drivetrain. Now Mazda claims a hp of 232 for our Rx8's and the dyno's we are seeing are in the 180 WHP range which shows we are losing approx 52 hp in our drivetrain. to me this says Mazda's claims cant be too far off but i am not an expert at all but both cars are losing aproxx 22-23% throught the drivetrain, i thought this was good food for thought. Also in this march 07 issue they feature a total carbon body racing rx7. the funny thing is for the guy to race with this car he had to use a 2 rotor engine. he bought the engine a few years ago and it is a 1.3L rotary. my question is, is this the same engine in our cars? he is getting 460 hp to the wheels and 380LB-FT of torque with this engine with of course some modification to the innards of the engine, but still if this is our engine in the 8 i am pretty impressed with those numbers no matter what the cost was. well i am off my soapbox about the HP crap because i am tired of hearing ppl cry about it and clog the forums with it.

you would need more details to know if it's a Renesis or not. 1.3L could be the Renesis OR could be the 13B that was in the 7. It't not really a comment that can be dicifered from that statement.
and with the issue of it having 80ft/lb less torque than HP, it sounds like it might have possibly been a renesis. I'd have imagined that the TT FD 1.3B would have made a better amount of TQ than that.
I must admit that i'm kinda failing to grasp the ultimate point of this post though. Just about anyone can show you a specific car that's pretty quick, but the battle that always rages seems to be more along stock HP lines than what someone can get out of a car in the end. I'm sure that if you sank in $10K or so, this car could defeintely be significantly faster than most cars you'd encounter.
However, the fact is that probably around 75% of the people on this site seem to like their warranty more than excessive HP or the thought of possibly dumping another $6-10K into an 8 to "be fast".
Not so surprisingly, many people that really love the 8 around here love it for what it's already like...not it's ultimate upgradability potential.

The 300hp Zs tend to dyno quite a bit higher than that on Dynapacks. That number seems abnormally low, even for a 287hp Z. If you click on this link, you'll see that an automatic G35 (rated at 280hp, if it's a coupe) puts down ~258rwhp, while a manual 300hp G35 put down 270rwhp. Even if this dyno reads a little high for a Dynapack (it may or may not, I don't have enough experience with that car/dyno combination to say for certain either way) those cars are still putting down significantly more power than the one in your magazine. I know it's very hard to compare these types of things, but ~230rwhp on a Dynapack is not a normal reading like ~180rwhp for RX8s on a "normal" dyno is.

my bad
Myabe i shoulda posted these topics seperately, i was just pointing out the drivetrain loss the 350z they had was pretty equal to the drivetrain loss the 8 seems to make. as for the rx7 that was in this post i was just kinda talking they had nothing to do with each other. next time i will make it two seperate post.
