If you bought it from the dealer they are supposed to include one program free.
Have them program it so it autolocks when you close all the doors and get 6 feet away from the car... thats the best setting.
Also if it ever doesnt work on the first button push or two, pull out the key, open the rubber bit next to that hole (the battery). shake the battery out, and use a paperclip or screwdriver to bend the metal tabs to hold the battery so that they hold it down tighter. Mine come loose every 3-6 months and you gotta tighten them.

To answer your question: no i dont know, but would be interested in finding out. I doubt it. But thought i'd throw the info out there.

I think the ebay places just give (or sell) you the programming instructions, which would be the same as the ones in the DIY section. I have not gotten into this myself, but all of that discussion indicates that you need two working keys to be able to program any more.

I've seen at least one ebay dealer that sells keys that are already cut for a different car - I assume they're harvesting them from wrecking yards. So you can get the transmitter cheap, but may still need to buy a new blank.

06BBRX8 is probably stuck with going to a dealer for the programming.

It's a Visa Card that you use to swipe open the car.

Its not the same as the 04 05 key... at all. somehow i doubt the programming is the same. but give it a shot and let us know... i have a feeling you'll be paying a dealer though.

A little thread resurrection here. I only have ONE key for my 06. And i wanna buy another key soon. I have two options, a normal key thats cut which will only allow me to unlock doors (ONLY good for when you lock your keys inside the car) and the other key is the emergency one that fits into the remote which has a chip in it. Now the guy from mazda told me that the chipped key will allow me to start the car (which sounds appealing to me) but for 115 bucks for the key and then another 100 to program, sounds a little pricy. My question is when ecxactly would the 100 dollar key be useful. I mean i did a little experiiment of taking the key out of the rermote and leaving it in the house while i went and used my emergency key to unlock and start the car. The car wouldnt start. So does that mean you ALSO need the remote in the car to be able to start it. If im correct, does this mean the ONLY time the chipped key would be useful is if i lose the emergency key in my remote but still have the remote (in other words the key slipped out) ?? Sorry for the long post

Thanks

So lets say i lose the remote with the emergency key in it. But i have a spare emergency key with the chip (the key with the black plastic at the end). Will i be able to start the car or do i NEED the remote ? Sorry but im a little confused about this. I tried this but the car doesnt strart. The remote has to be close.

you need either the remote or chipped key to start the car, the end.
