Knock sensor?

When running the 8 today, something unusual happened. I was running car to about 8k-8500rpms, and suddenly car bogged down like a rev limiter kicking in and check engine light blinked. I hadn't reached 8krpms yet either. Since I have been running 87 octane lately, I was wondering if that was a knock sensor of some kind, and the reason this happened was due to low octane. The engine light just blinked a few times, then stopped. It doesn't do it all the time, just occasionally. Has anyone else experienced this? I am pretty sure high octane fuel will stop this form happening, but I am still a bit concerned. Thanks!!

I've seen this before on the forum, it's related to misfire. Do a search for it. It could also be the knock sensor, the RX-8 has a very good one that retards timing and significantly reduces power when it detects any knock to save the engine from damage.

Yeah.. was your gas low? This happened to me when I was hammering my car down the turnpike. It'll be a misfire code.
