Just a note about the tires so it can be searched. Paul at Rotosport said that the ECSTA SPT have a distinct wear pattern on the outer blocks that might be mistaken for needing an alignment. He saw it on my car and also saw it on a car of his that has them on it.

yep,

but you really have to get a lot of miles on them to get to that point..

i think you can flip them and change sides with a dismount the even them out..

i have a set that i am going to try that with..

you can't be that big of a dick, or maybe you can...

The thing in the door panel is there and clean as new but there are no numbers there for tire pressures for some reason. It doesn't appear that they have rubbed or worn off - it just looks like they were never there. Looks like the max psi on the tires is 51. Odd number but I guess that's converted from the metric value.

Still, rule of thumb I've always heard is to go with what the car manufacturer says for the tires first but, under no circumstances exceed that max that is on the tire.

I think +/- 5 is no issue. But definitely don't exceed max on tire. Max tire pressures are high on tires are so high, I couldn't imagine driving around with 50PSI tires.

Following the car maker's pressure is more than a rule of thumb. That's the baseline. There are recommendations for going a bit higher under particular circumstances, but the car maker sets the normal value.

The number on the side of the tire has nothing to do with the pressure you should set for driving. It's information to the installer, saying what not to exceed when overinflating to seat the bead.

I have had several sets of SPT's and they did much better than the Bridgestones all around. My new Anniversary RX-8 came with Bridgestones, as my 2004 did, YUK!
Luv my new car though, handles great with the sport tuned suspension and the stereo melts the wax in my ears when I play Pink Floyd's the Wall.
