HI. Everyone,

I am upgrading my 2005 8 from stock 16 inch to the stock 18 inch.
I am choosing between "Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum" and "Continental ExtremeContact DWS".

I know DWS are better tires, but i can get Kumho for about 550 dollars before mounting and balancing from discount tire direct.

And discount tire direct don't have the stock size (225/45/18) in stock for the DWS, which i can get from my local american tires for 800 dollars total after mounting and balancing.

I will be moving to San Antonio, TX next month, so i would like a new set of tires.

Please provide any suggestion.

I have the Kumho LX's on my son's subaru and they are great. took 18" of snow this winter like they were snow tires. Quiet with good dry traction and ride. Don't know how they would be on an 8 yet but i will probably get them or the Kumho ASX when my original Bridgestones wear out.

I buy from Tirerack.com, set of 4 LX'x or ASX's in stock 18" size for $528 plus shipping.

I don't work for tirerack or Kumho.

i get another question,...i bought the stock 18" wheel with tire (already on the rim) from another member.
and now i think i need to put it on before driving to America's tire to get the new set of tire. (so i don't need to bring both)

do i have to worry about the TPMS?
i called my local dealer, and they told me that i can just swap it without calibrating the TPMS...is that true? in other word, can i just take off my 16" and put the 18" on without doing anything?

Do you know if the new wheels (18") even have tpms units? If so, do you know if they are any good? If "yes" to both, then search for how to "register" the new TPMS with your car here in the forum.

If you are unsure of the age of the 18" tpms units, or if they are older than the 16" tpms units, then I would transfer the 16" units to the 18" wheels.

As for the type of tire, I'm guessing you are looking for an "all season" tire? All season tires are great if you only have 1 set of wheels and live in an area that is prone to inclement weather. Now that you will have 2 sets of wheels, you should consider putting winter tires on your 16" wheels and put a set of dedicated summer tires on your 18" wheels.

I'm guessing you will enjoy the summer tires more when compared against the all-season.
