lack of torque
#52
Prius can really catch regular cars off guard in many situations, especially for inexperienced manual labor transmission drivers.
Hope this astute and experienced fellow never needs to use his manual labor emergency brake handle or worse... his manual labor lug nut wrench should he get an automatic flat tire

While he is somewhat right, but I seriously do NOT think that a Prius can beat even a 20 yr old Mustang .... straight forget it ..... but I think the Mustang will smoke Prius in twisties as well. consider how *wide* and *good* Prius suspension setups are ...
Damn the more I read these *wonderful* Prius kills stories ..... the more I want to dump my RX8 .............................
NOT!
Prius Kills Stories ... Priceless!
and the *modification* they talk about are .... bumper stickers ....

Ok, Comparitively american cars handle like ****. American cars have been and always will be primarily straightline cars, with the "handling cars" being the european.
also, a prius will do wel against a 80's mustang 5.0 uphil and on a turn, 5.0 mustangs like moast american cars are fast as hell in a straight line, but they can not turn.
and as for the motorcycle, yes i realise that they are much faster then the prius i was meerly stating that the torque of the prius of the line was impressive enough that I was able to keep up with the bike till he shifted at which point his power band kicked in.
and to the person who wants to race me, i supose i am up for it.
Lastly, I am pleased of all the people who poasted on here, it actualy has surprised me quite alot at the number of poasts. and the fact is that moast of us are just curious as to how our car matches up in the automotive world.

I believe I saw a similar car as your rx7 on my commute one day, luckily I was driving the 8.
But when I waved he just blew me off. Why oh why do the 7's hate us?

I'll do you one better, here is a short compilation of HILARIOUS quotes from it:
V8cobrakid- "the prius tops out at 108... yeah.. i know.. it does 107 easy.. does 108 easy.. and you still get 15mpg... but that's it.. you can't go faster than 108.. trust me.. i tried when racing an M3 down a highway.. all downhill.. only reason he beat me ( i had low profiles on the car) is because he tops around 150."
yeah, thats the only reason alright
240sxer - "I've had my Prius up to 107mph racing a 240sx. The 240 was faster but not by a terable amount. The Prius isnt the slowest car around but it's far from "fast". I'm curious what the top speed is. I'd imagine it could do around 120-135mph based on how easily it did 107mph. I also put the CC on at 103mph and it was getting something like 36mpg! Which is actually impressive in my opinion."
Rancid13-"I was sitting at a stoplight next to a new Mustang V6 convertible and the guy was gunning his engine and inching forward for the duration of the red light. As soon as the light turned green, I floored the Prius, got up to the 45mph speed limit very quickly, and glanced in my rearview at the Mustang I left behind. Yeah, that was fun! For the amount of noise that his car made, you'd think it would have gone faster than it did... "
TheParadox - "I kept up with an 06 jeep and only feel a car length behind. it was about 1/4 mile stretch, he also had kinda a head start."
cuz jeep's are soooo fast....
caliprius83 - "ok, it was up hil and around a turn, the prius does infact have better handling then a 5.0 mustang, and the guy said sompthing along the lines of " dang man is that thing stock ?" ofcourse in a straight line i wouldnt beet a mustang gt but a 6banger i could. as for the bike yet again i will state, the prius kept up with it through his first shift. which is still impressive if you ask me. but any ways believe what you want."
yeah, cuz an 18 second car is faster than a 15 second one...
and finally,
donee- "By applying gas in the curves, the front wheel drive driver can control for under and over steer. Whereas the rear-wheel drive car driver is just along for the ride in the sharp corners. Rally has gone on to all-wheel-drive due to the race car level of power burning up the front tires. The main reason rear wheel drive cars have favor by some people is high-speed handing on a high friction surface. Which is rarely the situation in the daily metropolitan comute to work.
tell that to my 8 please...

You may not be getting all the torque possible -
First make sure you got the new points and have the car tuned for torque
Make sure you are using a hi crank battery
I sure hope you are not trying to get torque in automatic mode, if it is an automatic you will have to flip over the manual - almost a shift mode and learn where your gears give you the best go-
Do not just hold your foot down on the accellerator and expect more speed the harder you push - instead, rev it up, let it drop a little, then push it up again - its counter intutitve but let the rotors catch up with the demand a little.
If you are using a lot of oil you may have carbon build up and also if you seem to be losing ..umph, you might want to replace your cat... it can get carboned and will knock down your power...
Check your tires - some work better for speed than others -
