Update!!!!

soo the timing chain was no the cause.. the cause officially from the dealership was a blown rod.... it actually went through the block.

Honda voided warranty on the spot due to a throttle body spacer and they checked on the computer and they found out it had been reved up to 8,600 rpms in the life of the engine and therefore voided the warranty.

figures, timing chains DONT break at 40k. I've never even heard of one snapping... jumping teeth yes, but "breaking"... no

sounds right... honda didn't fail, your friend did though

A built k20z3 can go up to 12K rpms.. a stock one can easily reach 10K rpms.. but would need to be reflashed to reach that since its limited by the ecu..

That is what i told him!!!! but he insisted that he was a honda guy and that th rx8 just wasnt for him.. He also said he didnt want to go through all of those gas tanks.. he wanted something more economical.

But yeah those k20's can really rev up. i think he now wants to go with a K26 wich is a k20 bored out... easily reash 350 hp. idk though.. i think he is rethinking honda as a company in general.. he is a bit jelouse of the way mazda has taken care of me with my probelms with my car. Who know he might convert to the only japanese manufacturer that actually build thier cars in japan... actual JDM! not something built in america hahah

When did i say reliably? I didnt.. i just said stock motor can easily reach it.. "reliably" was never mentioned

And there is one reving well past 9K rpms reliably on stock motor. i think it has 56K miles. but every motor is different... etc etc
