Check with your state attorney generals office. Every state is different.

Have you tried a different dealer? There's a difference between a lemon and incompetance.

Is My Vehicle a Lemon?

In order to be covered by the Illinois Lemon Law, a vehicle must:

*

have a nonconformity that both substantially impairs the use , market value or safety of the vehicle and is not repairable by the dealer or manufacturer in at least four attempts for the same repair, or
*

be out of service for a total of 30 or more business days.

The Lemon Law DOES Cover: New Cars (purchased or leased)
Light Trucks and vans under 8,000 pounds
Recreational vehicles (excluding trailers)
Vehicles in their first 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first
Vehicles purchased in Illinois

The Lemon Law DOES NOT Cover: Used Cars
Altered or modified vehicles
Motorcycles and boats

thats what it says......what do you think?

I don't think AC qualifies as substantially impairing the use, market value, or safety.

...

I'd say it could affect use and market value substantially, depending upon where the car is located (e.g. Arizona/New Mexico/Nevada).

If you're under 12 months/12,000 miles and in IL, I'd say you've got the start of a claim.

I started a Lemon Law claim several years ago on a Dodge Grand Caravan we had ...

(the fuel tank split open four times! HOLY CRAP! Once was bad enough!, but 4x and in 9 weeks! - turned out there was a heat shield from the exhaust missing. This started happening as soon as the weather got warm.)

... and just getting contacted by the IL Atty Gen got things fixed very quickly.

Here's a helpful link from our gal Lisa Madigan: IL Lemon Law Info

It would seem if the A/C keeps going out it must be part of some larger issue with the car (hint, hint). What are they saying is the problem and exactly what keeps going out? The compressor?

Why are you paying money to get the AC fixed? It should be under warranty unless its rock damage. If that's what it is, I'd find different roads to take.
