Lemonade
Hi. I was wondering if I am the only person on the site that filed with lemonlaw.com on the atrocious reliability on the RX-8. My engine flooded twice in the past 2 months.. causing me to miss two days of work and a college class. I am seeking a full refund, and nothing less. When the engine floods once more, the wheels are in motion. Honestly, Mazda has no shame releasing this car onto the market. It should be illegal for a Mazda dealership to sell this car without telling the consumer all of the technical difficulties that come with the 8, and all of the inconveniences he/she will expect if purchased. A good analogy to purchasing an RX8 would be.. marrying a beautiful blonde with an IQ of 43. All body, no brains. Nothing on the inside worth mentioning. You think with how unreliable an RX8 is.. it would come with 642 horsepower. On the contrary, it comes with 180 at the wheels.(if you are lucky) I am utterly disgusted.
Mazda's answer: Make sure you leave the engine running for 15-20 min everytime you turn the ignition.
My answer: That could be the most rediculous response to justify a lemon. The car is a pos, give me my refund.
PS: Thanks for the brand new s2000

Nothing is said abt the engine flooding if shut off before 15 minutes of warming up. Have fun towing your rx8 in 20 times in the next 5 years.

I don't need luck. I need a car that is reliable. Enjoy your 180hp, unreliable car.

It's not a user error if engine floods because of a freakish guideline, the car is brought into Mazda, and the problem isn't rectified after 3 attempts..

Like I and others said - you are obviously operating your vehicle incorrectly. Would you sue Dell or Compaq because you constantly have some type of computer problem that you yourself caused?
Read your friggin owners manual.

Read your friggin owners manual.
A Dell technician advised his customer to put his troubled floppy back in the drive and close the door. The customer asked the tech. to hold on, and was heard putting the phone down, getting up and crossing the room to close the door to his room.
Another Dell customer called to say he couldn't get his computer to fax anything. After forty minutes of trouble-shooting, the technician discovered the man was trying to fax a piece of paper by holding it in front of the monitor screen and hitting the "send" key.
A Dell technician received a call from a customer who was enraged because his computer had told him he was "bad and an invalid". The tech. explained that the computer's bad command" and "invalid" responses shouldn't be taken personally.
Is this you EatInTheAte?

I find it funny that soooooo many people have had no floods at all, yet when it happens to someone they claim that:
- "Mazda has no shame releasing this car onto the market"
- "You think with how unreliable an RX8 is"
- "All body, no brains. Nothing on the inside worth mentioning." (yeah, the engine hasn't won any awards or anything)
Dude, you have a lemon. Some may say you can't handle the proper care required for a rotary engine. I'm not one to judge, but even if your car is the car from hell, that doesn't mean that ALL RX-8s have the same problems. Every manufacturer has lemons...don't make Mazda out to be the devil.

Don't you know that every car produced prior to the 90's was a lemon?!

It's more like you wanted to marry a beautiful woman who would stand faithfully at your side, never complain, not spend alot of money (gas mileage), and not embarass you ever.. but instead you married a beautiful woman who farted, good luck on your search they all (sportscars) fart(have issues) and you will (can) never be satisfied.

Out of curiosity, is it not possible to hold the gas pedal to the floor as you are cranking it to clear the engine when it floods? Typically with most EFI cars this disables the injectors to help with a flooded engine. I flooded my FD once moving it just a few feet, did this, took like a little longer cranking than normal, and problem solved. Or maybe just pull the EFI fuse and crank it a few times, then replace the fuse.
If it is happening because you are doing short runs, or just moving the car around in the driveway, this is not something that is isolated to only rotaries. Most cars will still flood in those circumstances. People used to complain about it a lot on the Audi board, especially with the 1997 and up 1.8T A4s. Cars run rich when first started.

Seriously its in the manual, its says you have to warm the car up before shutting it off. You cant lemon law something thats not wrong with the car. Not only that ive never flooded my car, and ive started it then shut it off before warming it up in freezing cold weather and it still hasnt flooded. like others said take care of your car.
