Let's all just admit it we want 3 rotors

After reading posts by the guy with the 3 rotor cosmo engine RX8...I was GREEN.
Let's all just straight out admit it...we want a 3 rotor engine...always have since the 70's. I personally DON'T GIVE A **** about mpg's. 3 rotors...9 cylinder smoothness PLUS. AND let's talk about kicking some serious ***....like a turbine. MAZDA KNOWS we want this....they have all along....it's just NOT "consumer friendly". Not "marketable" to the middle aged **** with his finger in his nose who doesn't know a rotary from a Yugo. Those who bleed triangles spinning in housings want and need the 3 rotor...How ******* EXOTIC. I'm tortured.

Why not four rotors? :I kid:

If $$$ money wasn't an option or an issue, I'd like to have a Cosmo 3 spinner...

Good for you since you're made of money, obviously.
Personally, I don't want a 3-rotor wankel. Call me middle aged whatever you want.
On the other hand, I'd like to see a Mazdaspeed 8 with a factory turbo. It'd kick more butt than the current one and might even have decent gas mileage (compared to the performance it would offer).

I absolutely WOULD love 3-rotors. But, how much would that affect the balance of the car? One of the best things about the RX-8 is the handling (arguably THE best thing). How would that 3-rotor block of iron change the handling characteristics? I'd like the extra horsepower but if it’s going to behave differently, then I'd pass (other than the *** end kick from silly torque).

I seem to recall another thread about this around here somewhere... *looks around chair*

I definitely like the idea of a Mazdaspeed 8 with a turbo...we really dont need 3 rotors....after all they have a 3 and a 6 and the cx7 has a turbo....why shouldnt the 8 be availalbe in a turbo...it IS a sports car....right??

each rotor is equivalent to three cylinders in terms of smoothness bc of the three seperate combustion chambers it houses.

3 cyls times 3 rotors......

so guess what a 4 rotor would be like?

to hell with it all, lets combine all our engines and make a 1200 rotor renesis. imagine the the mpg, it wouldnt be measured in miles per gallon but instead, inches per gallon

but god would it make a nice tone at idle

I think the renesis is way smoother than any V6 I've driven, including the 3.2 L in an 05 Acura TL...

You say you care about MPG but then you want a turbo? Turbo would burn at least as much if not more fuel than a 3 spinner.

How about a 3 Rotor with Sequential Turbos....nice small turbo for down low and a huge 60 trim for up top...now that would be fun!

Just in case some of you missed this one. The GA RX-8 Club was privileged to visit Downing/Atlanta Inc. They fired up the #77, RX-792P just for us. This should get your blood rushing. Crank up the volumn!

Under 10K if you know what you are doing and can DIY most of it

but I still think we can get 450-500RWHP out of the renesis through proper Turbocharging

It's not just the 3 rotor engine though. so many other things change with the engine. Transmission, suspension etc. etc. etc.

The PTP turbo from Car and Driver was nice but ... It's just so tough to get the 8 into the 11 second quarter mile range or even the 12 second range(PTP did 13.5sec 1/4) compared to the 7.

Didn't the PR 3 rotor get into 10 sec 1/4's?

I guess $6900 to get to 13.5 seconds is nice. I saw a Ford GT and Viper doing 12-13 second quarters on TV this weekend so it's not to shabby for the cost.

{shrug} Gimme 3 rotors What's it cost compared to the Turbo?
