I'm about 90% sure I'm doing a trade in for a Lancer Evolution IX. Lets face it, the RX-8 isn't the most practical car around.. and definitly not the most reliable. I don't blame anyone but my self for not doing the research that I should have. I'll definitly stick around the forums, regardless of what I drive next.

people on this board are probably gonna say the evo isnt really more reliable than the 8.

nice choice , personally id go the Ike route with a used evo 8 because they tend to depreciate a lot and save a whole lotta money. or wait to get a new evo X. best of luck.

can we specify what precisely are the reliability issues?

Winter, gas mileage, flooding, adding oil on a monthly basis, rattling.

hell, with that being said sounds pretty reliable to me. I was thinking there may be some problems that haven't been discussed. But to opine....I won't...tis your soap box. I shall withold my opinion, lest I start an arguement.

Thank you for the clarification.

I can vow to you that most of the issue was fixed in 05 like the flooding and rattling. I can understand the winter issue, but I question your choice of a Lancer. As a side note has anyone looked at the CX-7 yet?

Well I have an 04, so the problems being fixed in the 05/06 don't justify my situation. I'm simply moving into a new car, and the Lancer Evolution looks to be worth my $35k investment..

I have a '04 too and I don't have any of the said problems. <shrug>
Well, OK, we don't really have a real winter here, so I can't comment on that one.

Good luck with the Evo - it's a fast car.

I still don't understand the purpose of these threads but it's an easy post so what the hell ,I'll indulge myself.

I wouldn't want to be in your situation. One could easily assume from some of your earlier posts here that your "problems" were of your own making. But hey I
know you'd rather not open up that can of worms again . I guess what I really want to say is I feel nothing but the utmost sympathy for both cars.

I never have understood Lancer Evo's. Sure, they are turbocharged and have a ricer wing on the back and all that good stuff, but the badge says Lancer to me. And Lancer's are still just $15k shitty little cars.

But, if that's what you want, go for it.

Then you see the EVO badge which means to me: turbo charged box car w/ all wheel drive capability that will hand me my *** on a platter if I accidently revved my engine at him at the stoplight. Notice how most people say they own an EVO, you rarely hear them say Lancer. Same goes with the STI crowd.

Oh no, here's an ego booster for Ike.

Bye.

Hope you finally end up with a car you can truly enjoy.

Congrats man. The EVO is a great car overall. Different strokes for different folks.

Glad you aren't leaving us for good.

I bought a used car with a bad clutch, replaced it and have had no problems since. My car is in perfect mechanical condition, I simply over-exagerated because it was still new.

P.S. You're a jerk.

----

Thanks guys, I test drove the MR today.. picking up a Blue '06 sometime this week.. upgraded leather/sun roof. This car PULLS hard, but it is no where has the interior quality like the RX-8.. which is what I'm going to miss the most. Navigation, 6 cd changer, heated seats (which don't really work anyway)..
