thanks ... the picture is so much clearer.. and i`m falling in love more and more with this machine as days pass by...

Buy it . They're really great cars, and a lot of fun. The misinformation going around about them is amazing.

omg i`ve read some of the news.. and people replacing 3 engines, others that run to dealerships 40 times/year... engine callbacks.

- if i buy a second hand rx8 without warranty and it fails i`m pretty scrued. i guess besides the 2 guys which answered my post the rest are to mad to answer it lol

i do have 2 more questions if you'd like:

- is the fues consumption as stated on the site?
- how much money do you spend on fuel / mounth...

it''s just i want to do some calculus to see where i am

thanks

Calculations you mean...? Or do you want to find slopes of lines?

Buying a used rx8 without warranty would mean it's mileage is over 60k.

There's a big thread at the top of the forums about gas mileage. Read it. Most people get 14-18 MPG city driving, and 18-24 MPG highway driving.

Telling you how much I spend on fuel each month is completely pointless. You live in Romania. A web resource I found said a gallon of gasoline in Romania cost $4.10 in March 2005. Most people on the forums live in the United States. Current gas prices in my area are $2.15 for a gallon of gas. I may drive my RX-8 20 miles a day commuting to work and taking it on vacations. You may only take it cruising downtown on weekends. How can you compare costs that way?

Unfortunately I don't always let my 8 warm up before I push it, but fortunately I don't always push my 8, and sometimes I do let it warm up.

My fuel consumption is between 16 - 18 City and 19 - 23 Highway. I would drive it 600 km/week driving to the City I used to live in, and the Town I live in now. With gas prices averaging $1.10/Litre ($4.16/gallon), I was spending $375/month on SUPREME gas.
My neighbor who drives a late 90's Ford 150 4x4 extended box, we figured we average out the same in gas bills. He drives about the same milage as me, gets 13 mpg city (lots of idling too!), uses REGULAR gas.
Thank god I still have my '89 Corolla 4x4 wagon. 23city/29highway REGULAR gas. No power for the hills though.

Hope this helps

I don't think you could detect sarcasm even if it bit your little pee-pee off.

i understand.... the thing is i know it's a superb car, i know it's reliable, and a dream to own.. but i also know you have to have luck! i mean the models before '05 are mostly recalled... it's ok if your car has warranty but if you buy it second hand with 40k miles on it.. your taking a huge risk.. a risk which i am not really sure i can take so early. This is a car to buy new, it's a "second car" not a first i`m afraid

i`ll go with the audi TT

Our gas is really overpriced - highest in the US because they add both state and federal taxes - $20 fills half a tank. We live midway between L.A. and San Francisco - it takes about a tank to reach either one.

I would probably think twice before getting a TT if you're concerned about money/repairs. I owned an A4 before my RX-8, and yes the engine was pretty reliable, but if you have anything go wrong the dealer is going to charge you a fortune. One of my last repairs on it was a small pressure sensor for the air conditioner. In most cars, this part costs $30. Audi charged me $250 for it. Don't even get me started on how much they charge for scheduled maintenance.

The RX-8 may be getting a bad rap in some places, but remember you're on a forum filled with people who concentrate a lot on their cars. There's going to be a much higher percentage of people here who will bring in their car for some minor problem, while many "normal" people will not even notice it. As far as the recall, I would think that would be a good thing with buying a used car. That way you get a free engine check-up, and perhaps a brand new engine! All the other things are just bugs Mazda is working out. If you are looking at a car with 60,000 km on it, it's still under warranty for another 36,000 km. That's not bad.

I'm only playing devil's advocate because the 8 is truly a special car, and you will enjoy driving in it every day if you end up getting one. Despite all of our bitching, most of us love this car, quirks and all.

very nicely put i must admit...

i just found out i can get funding on a very long time.. max 20 years.. so the rx is in the game again... if you guys are not bored by my questions since i`m new to the rx-dream then i`ll have some more:

if i`m buying a second hand car... the guy thats selling it will most probably not tell me if he replaced the engine:

- what signes should i look for when test driving? (what was wront with the recalled engines)

thanks.. you are a lovely bunch

I don't know why he wouldn't tell you if there was a new engine in the car. It's decidedly a good thing to have an engine that's younger than the rest of the car. What is wrong with the engines that were recalled for the most part was an oil metering problem. This caused a problem, among others, with compression, which would cause the car to feel sluggish. The best thing to do is take the car to a Mazda dealer and have them check for what services were completed on it. It's under warranty, so every repair done to it (short of accident damage) should have been at the dealer. You probably want to get a CARFAX on this car as well to find out its history.

He borrowed his dads car for the day, not knowing that the parking garage guys would take it out for a spin while he was having lunch. He put the car up on blocks with it in reverse in hopes that he could roll back the odometer. Sadly, it only added more miles.

The 8 should last you a lifetime.

The engine on the other hand will need to be replaced every 40k or so along with the cat, and your clutch.

I would agree fully. The resale/trade-in on these cars has been poor. Driving a new car off the lot will cost you 6-8 grand easy. I would have no problem buying a used 05 or 06 considering Mazda just extended the powertrain warranty. Most buyers treat their cars well. I'd be hesitant if buying it from a high school kid, otherwise, a used vehicle which is still under warrenty makes great financial sense (or cents as the case may be).

It is happening now is it not?

Do you think there is no chance that some of the engines that pass the recall test now will fail later? Some posts show cars passing the tests initially only to fail days later. This doesn't seem very reliable at all plus by the time they get around to test most of these cars it is going to be much cooler outside.
