The Life Of A Shinka Owner

The Life Of A Shinka Owner
I'll admit it, Shinka is my baby. It doesn't get driven in the snow, it doesn't get driven in the rain, it gets maybe 200 miles a month during the other 8 months of the year except for a few road trips here and there.
So I set about to wash and wax this weekend as it was actually warm enough for once. My 2 year old, who is heavily into cars and bought a car wash this weekend for his hotwheels from Toys-R-Us, walks up to shinka as I was washing and start pointing out the bug splatters. Sorry son, yes, your probably going to get Shinka in 25 years but that doesn't mean you can harass me about every bug splatter that I haven't cleaned off yet for those 25 years!
Next the wife walks by. Hey, you missed a spot with the wax...... hey maybe you should wax the car?
So anyway I finally get the car done, after having washed and scrubbed out most of the stains and crap from the winter off the other two cars the previous day. I've got to run into work for 5 minutes and stop and get some food for dinner and figure I should take Shinka as it's starting to get sunny.
If you haven't seen a clean waxed Shinka in the bright sun your missing out. Other drivers point at your car, people feel the need to come look at it, you get asked what it is with comments like..."it looks to fast for me...", people feel the need to park near it . The wife remembers the trunk being small.... hehe.... she spends a lot less on the groceries and then realises she could have bought a lot more.
Finally Shinka gets home. Into the garage she goes, all tucked in with her blanket to keep the evil dust away. It's supposed to rain most of the week and every hotwheel that's a sport car with a fansy paint job is called a shinka.
Monday morning and the eclipse feels like a sloppy fat pig after a day with Shinka.

^^^what he said, unless its a show car that you are planning to enter in events to try and win...can't imagine a stock shinka (as beautiful of a color it is) would win one.
although, i could understand putting it away in the winter. salts are bad, mkay.

My 8 is just a toy and a secondary car, I'm lucky to put 6k miles on in a year, but I still enjoy it just as much as someone who put 50k on it in a year. It stays garaged in the winter and I usually only drive it on the weekends but the point of having a car isn't to see who can put the most miles on it, it's to have fun and do something you enjoy. If saving miles on your car and not driving it in the rain (I drive mine in the rain, it's fun, I've actually drifted my car.) and babying is your thing and it makes you happy. Go for it!
Oh, by the way, are you calling Your 8 a Shinka, or did you get the 2005 RX-8 Shinka Special Edition? Since you've had it for, a year? Then I don't think it is. But the 05 Shinkas look pretty bad ***.

Haters (JyRO's just trying to be funny),
When/If I do get an RX-8 (explanation below), it will be garaged, and driven hard when the weather is nice. Keeping it out of the rain if at all possible. If I want to go to work or drive in crap weather, that's what I have a frickin' 2004 Corolla LE for.
When I pull it out, I want maximum bling-bling. I don't want someone to look at it and think, 'it would look good if it were clean.' Yeah, it'll be a 2nd (or 3rd?) car for me, so it'll just be a toy.
The reason I said when/if is because after driving one, it felt anemic to me. Looks great sounds good, and is practical (for a sports car), but unless I'm riding around at like 7 grand, there's a good chance that some snot-nose 16 y.o. punk in a 5.0 is going to walk away from me. The first time that happens, I don't want to think either a) I made a $33k mistake (fill in whatever dollar amount if I'm off), or b) how much money is it going to take not to let that happen again? I'd rather buy the right car in the 1st place. My next best option *may* be a C6 Corvette (used) in a year or two. 400 lb-ft of torque down at what 4.4k at only 100 lbs or so more weight than an RX-8 is going to stomp an RX. I'd rather spend more money and get the right car. Am I wrong?
Like I said, I have an '04 Corolla for every day driving, a 3/4 ton Dodge Ram Cummins (and 24' enclosed trailer). Wifey has a 4Runner. Can't wait to put her back to work so we can add to the fleet! Oh yeah, a 2002 H-D SuperGlide. Actually trying to sell the bike, I'm just not getting into it. Not nearly as fun as the Gixxer & ZX-6R I had previously (duh.) So why wouldn't I want to keep the RX (or C6?) blingged out and waiting in the garage?
My $0.02, let me know if you need change back! This is my 1st post. Glad to be on board!

Actually some of us don't need the 8 as a daily driver. I keep my 8 in the garage and drive it when I feel like it. It's a weekend car. I own a black 8 and the Shinka is a dark color and it is a pain to keep dark colors pristine. If I can tell it will be raining, I won't bother driving the 8 and I will drive one of my other cars. All it takes is 30 seconds in the rain to make a black 8 ( or a Shinka) look like crap. Why take the car out and bother with the hassle? It's not like the 8 is the only car and we choose to stay stuck in the house due to not having any other wheels. I have saved myself a lot of cleaning time by avoiding certain days.

Yes....I am one of those fortunate ones too....I too have 2 vehicles and I try not to drive the Shinka when the weather is bad....it gets dirty easy and requires extra care to keep it looking like it should..come winter it will be covered when bad weather is due....the SUV will be my primary vehicle at that point. :D

The 8 was SUPPOSED to be my second car, but now the suv sits in the garage alone all day while the 8 and I are enjoying life. The 8 gets to spend the night in its own safe, dry and comfortable garage though

well all you shinka owners, there is really nothing special about your car if you not gonna enjoy it, that color is dark so need to care for it more maybe.... i do the same in winter with my rx8 NY can be pretty bad sometimes.
P.S. i always wonder why they picked that ugly color on the shinka?? is there any special reason??? cause we got to be realz here Red, White, and titanium gray are the best colors.
but thats just me.

I beg to differ with you my friend....I enjoy my Shinka thoroughy.....and the color is magnificient....have you seen one in person??? dont make that judgment until you have....pictures can capture that black cherry mica...
oohhh my lil RX8 brother from another mother.... i think there is no one color i havent driven on the Rx8, before i got mines my dealer was very generous with me, i driven and seen all 9 colors in front of me and you cant compare the shinka color with the red or even the titanium. but again thats just me, the only special thing about the shinka is the light weight components it has, besides that the interior is good. but not a fan of the color.

Oh, I think the shinka color is *magnificient*. I'm totally in love with it, biggest reason I bought the shinka. I agree that the titanium gray is very nice (my 2nd choice), and the red looks very hot (only seen pictures, though); the white you can keep. But the black cherry beats 'em all.

now guys... to each his own. To-may-toe, to- mah-toe they're all the same 8 we all love. I mainly got the shinka for its rarity on a car that's already infrequently seen on the road. I love the interior color scheme on the shinka (don't like dark interiors) and the piano black and pearl satin finish on the trimmings really bought it in for me.

Not sure how your life differs so much from others on this page... Apparently you felt the differences were enough that you should start your own thred?
I have a question.. Why do people have to say thier car is "Brilliant Black, or Velocity Red"? Mine is black, and I don't think anyone would questions "which black?" since there is only one... .Really can't say I understand this at all...
This is a bizarre thred at best.
