Limited slip?

I am looking to buy a 2005 model RX-8 pretty soon and one thing has been bothering me - and my google/searching skills have been failing me.

How do I ensure that the car has a limited slip differential?

Does having a 6-speed automatically mean LSD?

I'd hate having an open diff...

I believe the 6-speed manual has the LSD, not the auto

You can get a LSD with the automatic.

What version is it? Try testdriving it on a wet road or on a road with a little gravel on it. The inside tire will want to keep up with the outside tire and jerk or make a little tire noise when turnning.

You can get the Mazda Speed LSD or I think Cusco makes one too.

The question was, do all the 6-speed MANUAL TRANSMISSION cars have LSDs?

Yes, all 6SPD MT RX-8s get a Tochigi Fuji torque sensing LSD.

This is my first car that has an LSD, and the difference is jaw dropping.

I didn't think the 2005s had the 6-speed auto.

Cheers!

you can see the difference in paint on the rear bumper. usually stuff like this is unnoticeable except in photographs. especially with flash.

You bring up a good point, however I am pretty sure the car has a clean record - keep in mind I shot this pic from a weird angle with my brand new Canon 580EX flash from quite far away, then pushed the exposure quite a bit in the RAW conversion, so the colors aren't right to begin with. Everything in the rear looks original - judging from the wear and tear on it...

Either way, I drove it quite a bit in the rain these last couple of days and I can quite confidently say that it does in fact have an LSD. :D

Clean records dont mean anything; those reflect accidents reported to the insurance companies and police. In other words, if the previous owner backed into a pole and replaced his rear bumper on his own so his premiums wouldnt go up, there would be no record of it. BTW that rear bumper is DEF repainted. Not that it matters anyways if nothing else is messed up.
