Allright - I think I've got a new one -
.... I expect my stereo buttons will last forever (on account of my using the controls on the wheel
).
A previous vehicle of mine had plastic buttons which were painted on the outside. Who would have forseen that rubbing off after years of use. Looked like junk after 3 years.
My RX-8's interior is still pristine, even after a year of heavy use.

you can get 3 x 20l + 3x4l paint containers in the recessed well in the boot . Then you can still drive fast round corners & not have them all tip over . Great !!!!
However - never try this with only one 20l in there - 2 hours of hosing down a very green boot lining taught me that lesson well.

Hadn't heard of this for the '06s either till today. Sweet! And nice to hear Mazda is still having fun innovating with the RX-8. Sounds like there's a cadre of engineers at Mazda that love the car as much as we do.

Another thing I noticed today that I never really gave any previous thought were the heated mirrors. They RULE. Normally in cold conditions, if I forget to wipe off the mirrors I can't see a damn thing out of them. Now, all I have to do is start the car and the mirrors clear themselves.

I like... The radio tuning **** where I can rest my hand on my knee as I bump up and down 10 kHz at a time looking for that far away clear channel radio on long night trips. On other cars I have to keep my arm OUT, which gets HEAVY after a dozen minutes or so.
The self dimming rear view mirror. How beautiful is THAT? Awesome. Wish the outside did the same.
The suicide doors. I like that that the laptop goes on the back seat easily through them.
The change tray.
The... Okay. I don't smoke, but the last two cars I had didn't have ash trays. Nice for holding things, and I still have access to the cigarette lighter---Er "accessory plug" for my HT.
The little place between the seats for a few CDs.

I liked the expression on "grandpa's" face when he checked on his grandchilderen for the first time. Not only did he say that the rear doors were "cool" and reminded him of the old Continentals, but he was very happy that each one basically had a bucket seat "with booster". The sippy cups they each got were tossed the minuete he was out of sight!

Absoultely the best 43 page thread I have ever read. Probably the only one as well.
I never thought I would replace my 94 MX-6 that was running perfectly at 160,000 miles. I was wrong.
41 and entering my second or third mid-life crisis, this car brings me joy by simply thinking about driving it.
I think the metallic red paint is the most beautiful color of red I have ever seen.
The one thing I love the most about this car is that I truly don't care what anyone else thinks about it. I know what it does for me and my happiness. That is all that matters to me.
I also feel slightly more stable after reading how others feel about their car as well.
Not sure how many times I have looked back at it parked under a light in a parking lot and said "Damn!".

I read about 30 pages of this thread and I don't think anyone ever mentioned the "soul" of this car.
Something about RX's (7's & 8's)... they're "alive." I consider myself to be a car enthusiast. I'm not much of a gear head, but I'm obsessed with driving. I've driven a TON of different cars, from sporty to granny, but every RX I have ever gotten behind the wheel of talks to you.
Something about the way those cars are build just makes them feel alive. When I was car shopping I had my choices narrowed down to 3 cars that all cost about the same. A 350whp Evolution 8, an S2000 with upgraded intake/exhaust, and a stock RX-8. The Evo and S2k were by far faster, and definately handled better... but something about the RX...
When I sat in it, I didn't feel like I was sitting in a car; it was more like that feeling you got as a child when you were lifted up onto Santa's lap. It just cups you in, holds you tight, and asks you what you want more than anything else, and then promises you it'll do it's very best to deliver.
Whenever you press the clutch in high revs, the stick pops out of the current gear with little more than a feathers' touch, and almost seems to get sucked into the next gear; it feels like the car is harmonized with you.
For the first few years I owned my FC, I thought I was just developing that 1st-car-attachment that everyone gets. But after I started to feel it in OTHER people's RX's, and people who drove faster & better cars started telling me THEY felt it when they drove my RX's.... I honestly beleive these cars come equiped with a soul.

The stock tires are a common size and all the same so they are relatively cheap to replace.
They still believe that it's important to make a car light rather than a heavy pig to support more torque than the drivetrain can handle.

When I test drove the RX-8 for an hour or so, I got more looks and smiles than I've gotten in the 9 months I've had my STi. I loved the center council and how I could rest my arm on there and shift. Can't wait to get mine!!!

I love how when I am cruising around town with the stereo cranked, if I spot a hole in traffic and nail the throttle, the engine song cuts through the music all ghostly like.

When it is raining I like to be entertained by the puddle of water that forms in the crevice of the rotory accent in the hood near the windshield. It just kind of dances around and I like to make it move up and down with speed. Sometimes I will swerve to make it run off the sides.
Uh, did anyone tell you I am easily amused. Oh, look at the shinny thingy on my desk. Ahhhhhhhh..........ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

Didn't think I really needed the heated seats - seemed like too much foo-foo...
Then the weather started getting frosty, and my passenger is little and old. The seat heaters are a real comfort. They warm the car more quickly and are a relief on long cold drives.
The little slot in the door, below the handle is perfect for holding the letters you want to drop in the mail.
When a pair of oversized SUVs suck up all the room in a small parking lot, you can still get in an out, like threading a needle.
There is indeed an organic feel to the car, a sense that it is just on the edge of life, that if a fly landed on it, it might ripple its skin to chase it off....People come by and gently reach out to touch it...(they like the little silver flashes in the blue paint).
When you shut it down and the blue lights fade and you make it bark to make sure the security system is on, it sleeps - and when you turn the key, it lights up all excited and a panel on the music system to print out that the mind of the RX-8 is on.
