Chris...
Mine doesn't either.
Except for when you first shut off the car before you open the door. Never tried it with the key out... Hmmmm

I also recently 'discovered' that the aux power socket in the center console shuts off upon engine shut down. I left my Garmin plugged in using its RF traffic/charger plug and it indicates it's going on its own battery or shutdown on its timer. No more fretting about leaving the RF plug connected.

btw: the Garmin works quite well covered in the center console. Of course I can't see its display, but still get the audible directions and hand's free cellphone, which is generally all I need most of the time. Day to day I just leave it there now and only windshield display for complex routing trips. No visual theft concerns.

It does work with the key out as well
After shutting off ignition and before opening the door the accessory power stays on and the power windows work. (not the sun roof)
Anyone know how long this will stay on if you keep the doors closed?

Yes, I know. I was saying, no, it's not a Shinka thing. We don't need no stinkin' Shinkas.

Yeah, what if you park really tight, and you have to crawl out your sunroof? will you return to a dead battery?

I have had the car for a week or so now, and I must say I love it... yeah it doesn't have the torque or pure horsepower, but it moves. I know just dropping it into 3rd saves you from the excess step of hitting the horn when the grandmas of the world are sitting in the fast lane blocking you. I truly love the sound of this engine!

PS- this is coming from a guy who has always hated imports and love old muscle cars.

One year

One year with the car this week and I enjoy driving more now than I did the week I bought it. This car just keeps getting better, I still stand outside stare at it and smile sometimes when I get home from work.

I actually did a double take on my own '8 coming off the golf course the other day. I was parked on an incline and as I came over the hill it made the front end look even lower than it is. For an instant I thought to myself, 'wow that looks nice' and then realized it was mine.

My golf partner for the round, who had never seen it, exclaimed "that must have cost a lot."

So, although my round was just average, my walkoff was sublime.

You know i have had my 8 for just over 2 years, and everytime I get into the car I smile until I get to the gas pump. However my smile comes right back when I turn on the car and pull off. I absolutely love how smooth to rotary motor runs and how the rpms climb so effortlessly. I love how the car can be dead quiet and then give you just enough sound to keep you in line.
I Love my CAR!!

Oh and the auto dimming rear view mirror is so cool!!!

Yeah the auto dim is pretty sweet. I love the way the steering wheel feels in your hand and the blue lighting on the gauges when your turn off the car. There aren't to many cars that can turn heads like the 8, and you don't even have to do anything to the exterior.

^you can make the gauges look like that when the car is on by rolling the dimmer switch a tad. so you have two choices for night gauge color. sweet.

hey all just purchased my 04 a couple weeks ago. one cool thing is the "hidden" storage compartment in the center console. i just discovered it lol. the coolest thing about it tho is that it fits my XD9sc perfectly. i carry concealed but sometimes i have to leave it in the car and this spot fits like a glove :-)

autodimming rearview is one of my favorite widgets in this car. The old sports car I drove didn't have it, and being low to the ground, I'd get the headlights of SUV's and Pickups right on my rearview mirror.

Was thinking about this and realised that sometimes i can shut the windows with the key out and sometimes i can't . so I did a test

Once you turn the ign. off and take the key out you still are able to use the drivers power window for an additional 40 seconds .
