This turned out to be an interesting mini-study in human dynamics.

1. I made an inadvertent 'eureka' discovery (the way many things are discovered).
2. A number of naysayers said it couldn't be so.
3. A couple others and myself then undertook a rough proof.
3. Brettus employed an empirical scientific methodology.

Interesting indeed.

I only got the car for a few days, but I've noticed a strange thing.

I ALWAYS have my right arm resting on the center "divide" portion after the shifter.

And it feels so perfect and so comfortable that I don't want to lift my right hand at all after shifting.

I know its a BAD thing to do, and I usually have both hands on the steering wheel after shifting. But this is the first car I drove that induce this behavior.

And it feels so natural and perfect, as if its designed that way by the engineers. Anyone doing this?

This is one of the little things that makes me fall in love even more...

The little things I like is...

The way the gearshiftstick is just sucked into gear after a gently direction. Sporty!

The mirrors lighting up when you unlock or lock the car. classy!

The zoooooooooMMmmm sound that comes right after you turned on the ignition.

I also like the fact that with a little bit styling (complete styling kit around the car), makes this sporty mazda rx-8 transformed to a "racing/sport car that 97% will turn their heads after, wishing they had a supercar like that".

(thats my opinion, and I havent styled it yet, but i've seen pictures- and damn this car gets well dressed up with a nice styling kit)

The little things that i miss is:

A engine trunk that when opened, dont need a stick to hold it up.

A frond window "cleaner". (the thing that goes back and fourth, taking away the water when its raining) ---that goes slightly more slower.

Talking This thread is still going

After less than a week of driving it, I already developed the habit of always slowing down in highway on ramp when there are no traffic or light traffic behind me.

I wait till I know I can get a clear past without any traffic blocking me ahead, and then stump on the gas in 2nd gear and try to reach the end as quick as possible.

It was like heaven. I was doing 45km/h on the top, next thing you know I am doing 80+ at the end of the ramp and then I heard the beep (Health check everyay) and shift to 3rd gear.

Within seconds I am doing 130km/h and merge into the highway just like a sharp hot knife slice through butter...

Slow down...turn on A/C, and then smiling silly.

If I do this everyday, I think my life expectancy will extend by a few years haha

hello all, I agree with the comments, but no one said anything about the fact that you can have the gauges in white or red colored light, love having both!

The cockpit just hugs you, and the seats (mine are cloth) are just superb! It took me a couple of weeks to figure out the trunk handle, I was wondering how to shut my lid without having to touch the thing!

Love the two exhaust pipes, and thanks to Mazda for making them crome, when I see a car that dosen't have them chromed, it looks so damn cheap.

Nice job on the map lights, the last ones I had shined too much light around, the light should shine right down in your lap, like it does.

Finally (for now), love the "piano black" panels in the interior, very classy. cheers!

I agree with everything you guys have said but I think you all missed something.

No one metioned the yellow rim for the spare tire. Never had to use it but I thought it was hillarious when took off the cover and saw the yellow sporty spare tire.

Anyone mention the details in the head and tail lights. The ones on the '09 rx8 have changed...they look cheap.

Im sure someone mentioned the pop-out rear passenger windows. Let you hear the roar of the road

One last thing, when turn it off and the engine is still hot, the fan comes on. A couple of people have run after me after I've parked and told me my car was still on.......nope.

My new one; steering wheel. It really is the perfect size for carving up the road; and has awesome feedback.

one thing with my last car being a coupe was the seat belt would irritate my neck and rug and itch, just very annoying, but with the Rx8 I don't get that at all
and I noticed it right off when I first sat in it.

I've had mine for 9 months now.
The autodimming rear-view mirror is just so right. It makes the car feel 21st century. It's the kind of simple thing all cars should have.

One day when my boss finally saw the car he said "I guess we're paying you too much then."

Everyone always wants to take my car when we go out for lunch
One guy from work likes to sit up front and listen for when I really rev it. One time we were having a conversation and he stopped what he was saying to say "nice" and then continued on, lol.

And lastly (not really), I like the appearance package I got with all the rotary accents everywhere, just adds tons of character. I even like the font used for the RX-8 symbol in back.

My favourite sublte things about the car is probably the dimmed blue light behind the instruments when you enter it. That's just so classy.

The second thing is when you start it, I love the first snarl the engine makes

I love everything about this car. I serious miss it more than my wife when I go on business trips. I apologize to it for 'cheating' by driving another car, particularly a crappy rental.

I park it in the top levels of the garage, so it is the first thing I see when the elevator doors open.

But more than any of the things, little and big, that I love about this car, is ...

when I pull up behind another vehicle with a nice big flat sheet of polished metal, I look at the reflection, and see my 8 smiling back at me. I turn on the lights, and it is a bubbling happy smile, with dimples in her cheeks.

I don't care what anyone else says. My 8 is alive.

^ lol sorry for your wife.
I am seriously obsessed with my 8 right now too. I never thought I could devote this much mental capacity to a car.

I love how many compartments are in the center console going all the way to the back. You can stuff a surprising amount of stuff in those.

They shouldn't have included cup holders - I don't let anyone bring anything consumable into my car.

LOL I do exactly the same. There is a tight turn before the very long ramp I take and I always lose whoever's on my tail in a heartbeat.

It actually makes the merge safer as I am already up to crusing speed (or a wee bit more) by the end of the ramp.

The way the exhaust note gets deeper and throatier as the car runs in. I am sure mine has anyway

Cool situation

I fetched my kids from school the other day, and whilst they were climbing into the car (suicide doors open), a kid climbing into the car parked next to us exclaimed "wow Dad, look at this super cool car!".
I had to smile and contain my smirk, because this kid was climbing into a Porsche boxster.

Me three.

I just love staying in second, when it's clear I just floor it through the turn onto the freeway, and hit third. The car feels REALLY fast in situations like this. And it's sucked to the road.

And the Mazdaspeed exhaust really added to my joy. My cd player is mostly on mute nowadays The sound in the parking garage was AWESOME. You could scare satan's pants off by reving in there :P

They actually are like that for safety reasons - not because sometimes you feel like 'red'; sometimes you feel like 'white'.

With rare exception, they should always be left 'red' at night. The idea is to make the interior as dark as possible; the darker the interior, the better your night vision (i.e. how well you can see down the road). That's also why cars have a gauge dimmer - it's not there because some people like gauges 'bright' and some like them 'dark'. Rather, it's so you can bring the gauge illumination down to where you can just read them. On a pitch black night in the middle of nowhere, you can have the gauge illumination set very low; driving through Times Square - where it's almost as bright as daylight - you need to have the gauges brighter, because the brightness outside the car closes your pupils enough to make it hard to read the gauges if you left them set low.

Mazda sets the gauges 'white' automatically with headlights off because it assumes that when the headlights are off, it's daytime. (If they were red during the day they'd be very hard to read.)

Mazda sets the gauges 'red' automatically with headlights on because it assumes it's night, and dark out.

Mazda lets you change the gauges to white with the headlights on so that you can read them in those unusual situations where your headlights are on and it's not dark: in daylight when it's raining and in rare, extremely bright night conditions (like driving through Times Square, for example).

dude..... I donno if this was posted before, but pull out your DL next time you get in your car, and have the sun visors in their stow position. Then look on the right side of your sun visor mirror(middle section next to the part with the holes in it) and slide your ID/DL into that slot. I love this car :D

Right guys, here's a few things that I love about this car:

1) Unbelievably cool engine noises*
2) The rotary shape in the hood and all over the car
3) The twin exhausts (so cool)
4) The look of amazaemnt on passer-by's faces when the rear doors are opened
5) The tail lights (drool)
6) The bolt action rifle feel to the gear shift
7) The cabin lights (all of them are deadly)
8) The alloy wheels are second to none
9) The fender strakes, front & rear rotary accents
10) The fact that this car is unreal!
11) The engine bay cover
12) The fact that Mazda incorporated so many ways of personalising the car
without any chance of it looking ricey
13) 250BHP from a "1.3"
14) Sunglasses storage is handy
15) Futuristic guage display behind the steering wheel
16) 6 CD changer & Mini Disc player (I've never seen a Mini Disc player built in before)
17) The way the car looks amazing from any angle
18) The looks it gets no matter where you are or when you're there
19) Cornering at 75mph on hard bends without even a single thing to say "STOP"
20) The fact that the engine LOVES high revving and doesn't seem too comfortable at low revs/speeds

* When driving, preferably in a built-up area, go through the gears up to 3rd. Get the revs at around 4000. Then without braking, downshift into 2nd and slowly ease off the clutch. Just listen to that sound! (Note: Keep a box of tissues close to hand as you WILL have a little accident)
