For all the people who say the 8 is slow and not worth it: I'm a police officer and drive a blown 05 hemi-charger 483hp at the wheels. I drive it upwards of 80 hours a week and the thing i look forward to the most is going home and seeing my 8 in the driveway, caressing her hood so she doesn't become jealous, and then taking her for a ride through the WV mountains above my house. It honestly doesn't even compare.

I read through every single post on these 49 pages so I won't sit here and repeat everything that I love about this car. Some of those posts even choked me up a little. Ive been in the muscle car club for about 11 years now and those guys don't have near the passion some of you have for your car. This community is amazing. Thank you for all the things I have learned reading through your posts and thank you again for the things I will learn in the future. If any of you are out my way and would like to go on a drive through the twisties of the WV mountains with no worry of a speeding ticket, send me a PM.

This country needs more police officers like you! You just "get it"!

Great post Mr "Officer".....Yes, It is a Real Shame that many people have and will never experience the "Marvels" of this car, there really is not much where you can say..Gee I wish Mazda did better on this or that...So you are a convert who also "gets it" that motoring is NOT always about POWER (like the Miata).....I for one are amazed by the Surgical Precision of the Steering...whether my car is clean or in need of a wash, I still look back every time I park !...

If I was going to a deserted island and could only bring one rx8club thread w me...this would be it. I have read this thread multiple times thru (at different times), every page, and like others have said, even feel emotional sometimes. Not once have I ever parked my 8 and not looked back at it to smile. And this thread explains why. What a joy it is to share w a great community of people who know exactly how u feel.

I've had my '04 66k mt for about six months now and I love it more each time I drive it. My cat started falling apart inside so its been gutted for now. Sounds so sweet. Still has stock exhause too...I know some of you are going to say why didn't I get it replaced under the 80k warranty, well Mazda said they would have to do $97 diagnostic to find out what went wrong, and then who knows how much to fix it. Plus I would have to be without my car for a few days. NO DEAL. This was free and I got a backup high flow cat for if I need it later...

To get a sweet backfire + bark into 2nd all at once:
1. heat exhause for 10 seconds or so by driving the **** out of it or just redlining.
2. Floor it in first gear to redline.
3. Timing is key here. Shift to second. Floor it and try to dump the clutch with the rpms just slightly higher than your rev-matched rmp for 2nd gear.
4. See if any pedestrians have fainted and call the proper rescue services...
5.Repeat steps 2-4 from second to third gear...

^No wonder you cat is dead, and your clutch will be too if you keep driving like that, oh yeah, stop spreading this garbage. While you are at it put the high-flow cat on, rather than kill the Earth for a loss of perfomance.
Sorry for the rant, it's the gun loving hippie coming out in me.

Now back on topic,

The way the rear windows look left open, while parked fronts rolled up. Just looks slick.

Just picked up my rx8 a week or so ago; just now getting it back from being repaired and took it out today.

1: Love the feel of shifting; Mazda has it right. I have driven a VW GTI and a Scion Tc...shifting in the RX8 feels so much better.
2: The car is into itself. The rotor symbol is everywhere.
3: Not sure if this is just mine, but the strap in the trunk seemingly there to keep your bottle of oil from flying around the trunk.
4: 4 seats and suicide doors to get into them
5: Dropping a couple gears and revving to my heart's content.
6: Linear acceleration and precise handling.
7: The radio is quiet when first starting the car, and becomes louder when you drive off.
8: being that guy at the gas station checking his oil.
9: The fact that this car is VERY difficult to stall. It's just neat.

Glad I got an RX8 instead of a GTI like I was planning. I feel like the car has a soul in it.

Just thought I would let you know that the strap you are reffering to is probably where the tire repair kit is supposed to be

Well, I guess don't have one of those, so it works as a fantastic oil tie-down

You can put more stuff than just the tire repair kit in there. I have the repair kit, a small fire extinguisher, and a quart of oil.

Personally, I love the little handle on the inside of the trunk lid. Makes it so easy to close the trunk without getting my grubby paws all over the paint. Though a downside is that I constantly reach for this handle in other cars...

Having people tell me nice looking car and in same breath ask what kind of car is that?

It's Rx8.

Their response "I don't even know what that is."

Giving me the feeling of driving some exotic overpriced sports car.

I don't know if you guys follow GT racing but the class has a few vettes and some other "performance cars" and a ton of rx8s. I think it's funny that the 8s can run rings around a vette in a sanctioned race but my car still gets hated on and dissed when I'm out driving. That's cool, objects in rear view mirror no longer matter.

After 51/2 yrs of ownership I only just noticed this :

When you flick the dashlight onto dim for night driving it automaticly changes from bright to dim when you turn the lights on .

I love how it looks going down the road or parked with the rear windows open and the sunroof just tilted.
How it always catches your eye.
How it feel to drive... it just makes your day better.

There is little to no resemblance between our RX8s and the GT3 RX8s. Those are tube chassis cars.

I just noticed the clever design of clutch pedal and it's connecting arm:
If you press down with the pedal resting under the center of your foot, the clutch will be disengaged when you feel the upper connecting arm of the pedal touch your toes. I used to push down on the clutch pedal with the toes/ball of my foot, and had to sort of feel where the clutch would disengage. Now it's a perfect, tight gear change every time!
