Then don't purchase a first year model car. What "surprises" are you worried about? Some of us are already over 10k miles and the only "surprises" we've had were the two recalls. They were taken care of within a few hours.

The flooding "problem" has blown way out of proportion. If there's one thing a forum can do, it's blow something out of proportion. You realize most of the flooding posts are people asking about them, and not suffering from the actual "problem"?

Just like the news paper and TV news all you ever really hear is the bad news.

Flooding: never happened here, just ensure you warm up your car or do the rev thing in the manual.

Flashes: i just got the "M" no worries, actually revs quicker and i feel there is more low end power.

Hey AG, you need to convince your local dealer that you need a 24hr road test. I know 24 hours isn't a whole lot of time, but it may help you "make up your mind".

Continue reading these forums, but realize that not everyone here have ALL the issues others are complaining about if any (some even have NONE). All first year model will have their issues but the majority of people here who own the car will keep it. You should have seen all the hoopla during the horsepower buyback times... woohoo.

The only concern I may see for some people is the gas mileage issue... but that's only a problem if you have a 100 pound lead foot. I was concerned about the gas mileage at first until I realized... damn... if I drove any of my previous cars like I drive this bad *** Mazda machine, I'd have pretty lame mpg issues with those cars too. Hey, you know come to think of it... I did have pretty crappy gas mileage with my previous cars. I've had my 8 for 10 months now and I'm STILL lov'in it.

Good luck with your decision.

Silver seems to be the most popular, but that red with black and red leather looks damn sharp. I've got winning blue (if you didn't guess that :P) , and I'm happy with it. But I wish there was an option for blue on black leather. Then again, lightning yellow and nordic green are going to be discontinued...so if you want to be even more unique, go with one of those

I was 21 when I bought mine. Dealership was great, treated me with respect and everything. I brought my dad along, though. I'd never bought a car before, so I wanted him to look out for me. Plus, I'm sure it had an effect on the salesman to be outnumbered 2 to 1. I don't know of any dealerships that will loan you the rx8 for 24 hours.

Dude, you are already sold, just get the car color and option package you like the best and get out there and drive. Good luck and there is nothing IMO to be worried about, enjoy the car and if after you get it there are questions, ask us, we'll help and you'll be golden.

Buy it -- you won't regret it. I'm actually amazed at how FEW problems people are having with the car. I don't think many of them are flooding any more, but what if it does? Okay, that's an inconvenience and a small expense, but the car isn't damaged in any way, so it's really not a big deal (and probably will never happen anyway.)

Other than the horrible gas milage, this car doesn't have any real problems that I am aware of.

GO BUY IT!

Cross the bridge when you come to it..........

Worrying about it won't help.

Go buy the car and have fun.

The main problem that I've had is that I want to drive it all the time. It's very distracting. I'm at home, I want to be driving the car. I'm at work, in a meeting, and I want to be driving the car. I'm asleep, I dream about driving the car.

I think I have RX-8 Attention Defficiency Disorder.

Honestly, the problems you are hearing on this board are few and far between. Plus, the upgrades and fixes that came with newer cars have remedied those problems. I've had no issues in the 8600 miles/6-months I've had the car. Every day, the car impresses me more.

Get the car, you'll be more than glad you did.

Actually, it looks more like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD):

1. Obsessions.
Obsessions are thoughts, images, or impulses that occur over and over again and feel out of your control.

2. Compulsions.
People with OCD typically try to make their obsessions go away by performing compulsions.

:D LOL

Buying the 8 was the best car buy I've ever got!! I've had several first year production cars, and the 8 is the most trouble-free of them all!!
