I've only seen 2 other RX-8s on the road, EVER. Doesn't surprise me at all.

Me neither.

Now tell us what we all want to really know: how was the RX-8 on a really long road trip?

I drove from Fort Worth, TX to Houston to New Orleans and back. Didn't see another 8 anywhere. I think the trip was around 1100 miles.

I was in Dallas and saw a few 8's running around . I drove from Amarillo , only seen a couple around here . My road trip was about 300 miles up there, and then I drove to pick up my son , so it added another 300 miles almost on the way back . The car did great , I found a few things annoying , like the cup holder ... drink gets warm . It was pretty cold on the way up there , so the heater was on a lot , the cd player gets hot ,actually missed up a cd . The cd started to sound real wierd , so I popped it out , it was HOT as could be , almost couldnt hold it . Two people on a road trip max ... trunk just isnt that big ! Was really my first road trip , I found towards the end my leg would cramp alot and I know that is more me than the car . But the car is a BLAST to drive fast , and of course ........if you are passing people or they pass you , the car gets the looks ! This spring I'm thinking about taking a longer road trip , see how it does .

Rx8 on a long trip?? With our tiny tanks, how many times did you have to stop for gas? At least 3 I would imagine.

I've taken a few long trips and have yet to see one on the road. Went from Wichita Falls, TX to Memphis and just recently went to Junction City, KS. 1200mi RT and 900 mi RT respectively. On the other hand I have seen more than a few just driving around town and short drives to Dallas, OKC and such. On a side note, the RX8 is great for long trips. More than comfortable enough, plenty of space in the cabin for your junk and overall a fun long-cruise car. On both trips I averaged a little over 21 MPG.

I drove 5 or 6 straight weekends from SF to OC and didn't see any RX8s on the road. I averaged 21-22mpg and they were all good trips except all the bugs beat the heck out of my front bumper. I'll need to eventually repaint it or swap it out upgrading to MS.

I drove from California to Vegas and back without seeing a single RX8. In Vegas did see 2 Vipers but not a single RX8, it made me feel like I was in an exotic.

I've taken several trips and not seen a single RX-8 - Columbus to Buffalo (6 hour drive), Buffalo to Montreal round trip (12 hours driving), Buffalo to York PA round trip (10 hours), Buffalo to Cleveland round trip (6 hours). I'm excluding my buddy's RX-8 in Cleveland as a sighting though!

Not many in the NE it seems - I think I've seen 3 others around Buffalo at most since the summer...

I found the RX-8 to be a very nice car for a trip. Driving positions are comfortable and got 23 - 24 MPG so not that bad on the frequent fueling. Bose stereo is great...

I-80 is fun!.. its hardly ever patrolled and if it is patrolled you can easily forecast where the cops could be hiding as alot of I-80 is medians on both sides. All you gotta do is slow down when you see bush! :D .....people FLY along that interstate in PA... at some points i was at 160km/h and that wasnt even all that fast compared to everyone else.

I went on a trip that was 10 hours each way one time from SW GA to the NC Coast. I drove the whole time with the wife next to me. Very smooth, very comfortable. I didn't have any sort of soreness or back pain when I got out at the end. When my wife was asleep one time, there was caravan of a vette, BMW, and S2000 which zoomed by and I followed them at 90-100 mph for a while. Not a stir from next to me. She didn't even know that happened.

Got about 21-24 mph during that trip. To be exact, I got 22.1, 23.7, 20.8, 21.8, 20.8, 22.0 on the tanks I got for the trip and back.

I was very impressed with the car's road trip abilities.

Exactly.. people complain about its MPG but if you keep red lining it... what do you expect?

I knew the MPG is fine if you dont drive aggressively

I'm dying to take a raod trip with my wife in the RX8. Once I break the 600 mile break in period I wont worry about takeing it on a trip anymore.

Also, I agree I just filled up my 8 (2nd tank) and I got another over 19mpg city fuel economy. My first tank was at 19.75mpg and my 2nd came in at 19.34mpg with more aggressive driving and worse traffic.

It's been fun reading up on your trip stories. About the cup holders, I wonder if we could add some insulation inside the cabin to help things out? Or...check this out, a mod that allows you to cool cup holder area...LOL, maybe a condensation problem thou.

I live in a tiny town on the Oregon coast and saw a silver 8 the other day, but it had Cali plates and was parked in front of the real estate office. If the owner is reading this, holler back - if you move up, maybe we can start a CLUB!

Drove from Memphis to Wilmington NC ten days ago, 2000 miles round trip, and saw 4 8's on I-40, but then last weekend I hit the top of the ramp on a local expressway and pulled in behind another 8, picked up another one at the the next ramp, and then two more caught up from behind - five in a row. Felt like the old rx-7 club days when 40 or 50 of us would get together on the weekend. I haven't seen four other 8's individually in the last year!

I drove from Flowery Branch, GA (HOME OF THE FALCONS, YEA! GO VICK) to Memphis, TN, with my wife and could not have enjoyed the ride more. There is just something about exiting the interstate at 85mph and downshifting that just makes stopping to get gas worth the trip. Saw 2 8's (I think, it's been a while).

We are planning to take an extended trip in the summer (2 weeks) to drive to the left coast and back. I can't wait to see if we pull this one off.

Yup - back in August 2003, I took my 2 week old RX-8 on a 6600 km road trip from Calgary to Monterey, CA. At the time, the first RX-8s in the US had only been delivered 5 weeks prior, so I only saw 1 other on the road during the entire trip. I did see Aratinga's car (most unfortunately, didn't get to meet her) at Laguna Seca, as well as former forum member MazdaBob and his car. (A few pics from that road trip are here )

Regards,
Gordon

Today I saw two Velocity Reds almost just like mine. Real weird because normally I don't see too many. Posted on the MW forum just to see if it was someone from the boards.
