EDIT - I just cant get over how much fun the RX8 was to drive! That Rotary made quite the unique sound as it got revved up! So intoxicating lol.

You can also confront them, telling them that they're asking way over the market value for the car.
Now awaiting his call. Lets see what he can offer! I'll keep updating this as I get info.

So his counter offer was this. My original deal had the following:
RX-8: $24900
Warranty: $1800
Winter Tires and Rims $2100
I told him i found an RX8 locally for $22500 with rims and tires and still under warranty. He said he would talk to his manager and they came with the following offer.
RX-8: $24900
Warranty: $1800
Winter Tires and Rims $1100
Basically they dropped $1000 off the wheels and tires. Not much of a deal at all.

Depends on specs of the rims and tires...$2100 is a rim job pardon the pun but $1100 is a good deal if the rims are alloy and the tires are top-drawer.
Too bad the other RX-8 is a bluff! I guess you have to try and disguise that fact now.
IMO that is not that bad a deal...the asking price in December on my 2004 without nav and roof (but only 26500 km) was $23,988...

Sport Edition. Not exactly BBS but fine for winter duty. The WS-50 are a good tire, especially if you have a lot of snow where you are. My dealer wanted $1500 for steel rims but Bridgestone LM-22 which are more performance-oriented than the WS-50 and quite a bit pricier in this size. I eventually got el cheapo alloys and Hankook Ice Bear W300 tires (similar in price to the WS-50's) for $1500 including tax and shipping from Tiretrends.com.
You might be able to squeeze another $500 out of them (on the price of the car), but you also have to ask how much it affects your payments (my guess is $5-10 a month). To them, the $500 is a big chunk of their profit. If you really really want this particular car and are set on nav (no nav are a dime a dozen)...I say accept their counter-offer.

We do get a lot of snow here. For example we just had 30cm dumped over two days and it was nuts driving around even in an SUV.
I'm not looking for crazy flashy rims for winter lol. I will save the big bucks for the summer rims! I will see what I can do. I appreciate all the input thus far!

I'd tell him that it's still a bit high compared to the others on the market. Ask him if he'd be willing to throw in the warranty and wheels/tires since the price is so steep.

Might even want to mention that you looked up some other cars online and it seems out of line. If he tells you that they're cheap because they're private party sales, tell him that buying from a dealership shouldn't command a $2500-3000 premium.

A quick check of autotrader.ca in Ontario... about 1/3 of the cars advertised are below $24,900, and none of those have navigation, though most have fewer km's than 60,000. Of course these are all asking prices.
Nice to see RX-8's up to 120,000 km!!! That's 40,000 per year...at 15L/100km and $1/L those dudes have paid $6000 per year in gas!!!

So salesman called me just now and asked me whether I was going to come in and sign and I directed him towards the Autotrader site to see how other 04 RX-8s are priced with lower mileage etc. He then countered and said that their vehicle had the Nav. I then countered with explaining that an OEM Nav doesn't account for a $3-5K increase in price on a vehicle with more KMs than the ones listed online. He didnt have anything to say.
I told him that he had until 4:30 today to get back to me with a deal that was resonable to both of us.
Lets see what happens lol.

Well that was a fast response and I guess it's a good thing I didnt do business with them. He told me that if i wanted to be a cheap bastard I should be cheap bastard and another dealership and stop wasting his ****ing time. This is not from the salesman but rather the used car manager.

this one just wasn't meant to be. just be glad you got out when you did. think about how they would treat you after they had you sign on the dotted line and/or if you had to go in for any warranty work.

You'll find one soon, I'm sure. In the mean time, check out this article. It's a great read and it'll teach you LOTS of things about the process from the salesman's standpoint.

Found another Black RX8 with Nav locally and am going to test drive it this evening. Has slightly lower KMs and it about a grand cheaper. Hopefully I can join the 8 crew soon!

I wish I could find a site that would appraise used cars for the canadian market. The way that last dealer pretty much kicked you out makes me wonder if used 8s really do go for that much more over there. Usually a dealer is so hungry for business that they'll at least try and meet you halfway. Shooing away a potential customer usually means that some aspect of the negotiation is WAY out of whack.
