Looking to buy an 8 and I need some advice...

Alright guys, I've drooled over this car for 2 and a half years now, and I'm finally ready to buy. I am still on the fence on the Auto vs. Manual issue. How fast is the 6 speed Auto 0-60 MPH? I can't find any definitive information on this...

Also, I really liked the Winning Blue 8, but they don't sell that color anymore. Is the Strato Blue just as good? Otherwise, what color should I look into?

well EVERYONE knows velocity red gives you 30 more HP, so get that color. as for the 0-60, if uve been waiting 2 years than you'd know this is NOT a straight line car. Obviously the stick is faster and better.

2 years to ask a question trolls ask as theyre 1st post? You are a retard, go back in your cage.

I dont know the exact time 0-60, but the car isnt made to go in a straight line like many people have said.

With that being said,

Color is a color, all about personal preference. Like for me i love the strato blue over the winning blue, but i cant afford a new 8 so im stuck with the winning blue, but just as happy.

EDIT

Wow Dshiznit1489!!! you beat me to it! i was also going to say red makes you go faster but then i figure since this is like my 1st post in a while i better not start out that way LoL...

first off, congratulations on stepping into a bigger world

second, get the manual transmission or you'll hate yourself for the rest of your life.

thirdly, if you like blue, go with stormy blue mica.

fourth, check out the June issue of Car & Driver for detailed stats on the rx-8. it's their best pick out of the 4 coupes they tested.

fifth, please forgive the flamers on this site. they hate newbies who ask the same questions over and over. but, please learn to search first to get answers to questions already answered in other threads. and, then if u still have questions, then ask those.

post some pix once u get the 8.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm a little wary of the manual, as I would be buying this car, driving it for 2 months, and leaving it in the hands of my little brother for the better part of the year while I am at school. He doesn't know how to drive stick, and he really isn't that great with an automatic as is. But, part of the reason I am buying the car is for him. It's a gift for him to look cool in while enjoying his last two years in high school. I just hope he doesn't wrap it around a tree...

I understand the car is not built for straight lines, and I'm not expecting this car to out run any other car, I just haven't found a definitive answer on the 6AT's 0-60 time.

I'm unsure as to whether or not a new car is worth the investment. A used '06 would be cheaper, and I could still get the Winning Blue, however, I am fairly picky about my options. I want the car to be a GT with Nav and appearance package. The color is something that I am still debating (Strato Blue, Winning Blue, Velocity Red, Brilliant Black) but I know I want the Nav for some AV mod's I want to do.

I'm not looking to race this car, I'm looking to have a fun, good looking car to toss around and enjoy. I like the utility of the 4 seats, and the look of the coupe, so this car has basically won me over. After test driving the 4AT two days ago, I'm in love, except there is no low end power. Absolutely nothing until you are above ~4,500 RPM.

Anyways, I plan on test driving the 6MT and 6AT this weekend, but I really think that the 6AT is what I am leaning towards right now...

Congrats on getting an 8...you'll love it

I have an '05 4sp AT, and other than the lack of low end torque, and a few rattles, I LOVE THE CAR!!!

Ignore the flames about searching, but try to search first, and welcome to the club

Actually (and I'll be flamed for saying this), I've searched extensively on the 6AT 0-60 time and came up pretty empty.

well even with the 6spd there is no REAL power until 4500 rpms either...no low end power...however with the 6spd you have an extra 30hp and have the ability to have full control of the power...it may not be the smartest thing buying this car to have your brother drive around even if it is an auto...you might as well teach him stick on the car...the clutch is surprisingly very friendly and forgiving...winning blue all the way

Velocity red also seems to get you 30 more speeding tickets; color is your preference, not ours.

If your only going to use it for two months. I suggest you rent, and buy when you get back from school.

As for the transmission, get a manual. It will help your resale value, and you will have more fun.

Get the manual. Take your keys with you. Make your brother earn his own toys. The RX8 is not a good first car!

I don't think the 6AT is faster than 7.5 to 60. You'll be beat by almost everything.

Okay, so let's say I do get a manual, probably a 2004 WB GT 6MT with Navi and appearance package with around 20000 miles on it. What would be a fair deal on that car?

Unless your brother is an idiot he shouldn't have trouble with the car. Very safe handling, unlike, say, an S2000. Just absolutely positively get Sport Package or higher for the stability control. If you're thinking about nav, then the car will have it.

The current six-speed auto is much better than the four-speed they used in 2004 and 2005. But with a car like this people rarely regret getting the manual, and often regret getting auto.

I haven't heard any good things about the Navi besides the 'coolness' factor.

I think buying the car to share with your brother is cool!

I think buying the car to share with your brother is cool! I need a big brother like you. I believe the auto would be the best car for you and your brother since its easier to manage in traffic and on inclines. It would definitely make him cool in school. Overall the At Rx-8 is not a fast car 0-60mph 7.5 second is being generous, I'd say that a sec too low. The 6 speed is what makes this car and its not that fast. But it does help keep the rpms up higher and makes it feel quick and spunky, and might intice a young buck that he could race it.

I think you and your brother will absolutely love the Rx-8 in either transmission, but I really think that for a new driver a manual has to be taught, clucht problems, heel and toe throttle, clucht & brake syncing is fun once you know how. But it takes more time to learn then the AT. As you seem to know.

The Blue is a pretty color what color interior do you like two tone or one color. I think the Nav is a cool option but they can be bought cheaper 3rd party, but don't look as cool, sliding up out of the Dash.

I'd suggest a 06 or 07 to stay away from TSB problems. Espeicailly since you are going to be in college, your brother don't need to be at the dealership fixing warranty problems, he needs to be out with the babes in a Blue sports Car, chilling. Or at the libaray studying with a doll looking out the window at you guys 8.

Well I plan on doing some modifications using the screen and I really don't want to do anything drastic to the car other than cutting 4 - 7 wires. That's reason number 1. Second, my brother get's lost a lot. :-p Third, it really doesn't increase the price when buying a used one, so I don't see why not.
