Overall the At Rx-8 is not a fast car 0-60mph 7.5 second is being generous, I'd say that a sec too low. The 6 speed is what makes this car and its not that fast. But it does help keep the rpms up higher and makes it feel quick and spunky, and might intice a young buck that he could race it.

I think you and your brother will absolutely love the Rx-8 in either transmission, but I really think that for a new driver a manual has to be taught, clucht problems, heel and toe throttle, clucht & brake syncing is fun once you know how. But it takes more time to learn then the AT. As you seem to know.

The Blue is a pretty color what color interior do you like two tone or one color. I think the Nav is a cool option but they can be bought cheaper 3rd party, but don't look as cool, sliding up out of the Dash.

I'd suggest a 06 or 07 to stay away from TSB problems. Espeicailly since you are going to be in college, your brother don't need to be at the dealership fixing warranty problems, he needs to be out with the babes in a Blue sports Car, chilling. Or at the libaray studying with a doll looking out the window at you guys 8.
Eh, I don't know. I'm not made of money... I have ~15000 right now, and I should have 20,000 within a month and a half. A 2004 or 2005 MT is much cheaper than a 2006 AT... I don't want to be stuck with the 4 speed...

We'll see.

But the thing is, if you buy an auto, you'll be wasting all of that money.

Think of it like this. You go to a fancy restaurant. A surf-and-turf comes in two varieties. The whole delicious meal is $50, but there's a $20 version as well, except all the food is made of plastic. But it still looks just as good.

Which one are you going to buy?

So you would leave a brothe who gets lost, alot in charge of your car. ...Scary...

Being picky makes it very difficult to buy a car never mind a RX-8. I just purchased mine a little while ago. I was very picky about what I wanted. When I first started looking, I was a 100% convinced I wanted the appearance package, with the non ms spoiler. They looked so damn nice in pics. After looking at about 6 different 8’s I realized when seeing the car in person you barley notice the difference between the appearance package and not having it. I was a 100% certain on getting a bb but after looking at the vr which I thought was ugly in pictures. up close it looks so beautiful with the nice hints of gold metallic in the paint. I also bought a nice little sub and amp combo for my car and planed on doing the aux mod and everything. I install the sub with in the first week. I’ve had decent sound systems in my last 3 cars. After driving if for the last few weeks me and my friends have noticed we never even have the stereo on the only time I listen to it is showing people what a nice clean setup it has.

Get the manual a 100%. Teach your brother to drive manual early in life, he may never learn else wise.

Hope this is some what helpful

The navigation system in our MY04 is the worst user interface I've ever used. OTOH, our portable Garmin Nuvi (which costs less than the RX-8 OEM navi system) is a pleasure to use. With the RX-8 system, I have to be really, really, really lost in order for it to be worth using the incredibly clunky interface to enter the address I'm looking for. If they've entered the late 20th century with this system, with a touch screen interface, it would be fine; until then, this isn't worth the trouble, even if it were free.
