Looking to buy, need Guidance

I am looking to purchase an 04 6speed. I love the car but I am being scared off by everything I read about the engine.

What can I look for to see if the engine has been replaced in the car i am looking at?

Should I wait and save up for an 07 or 08, doesn't seem to be as big a problem with the later years.

Your talking about twice the price between a fully loaded 04 and an 07/08 new. As long as all the service has been completed there are no major problems with the older cars. There have been issues, but most have been resolved through Mazda service.

A fully loaded 04 will be in the $15,000 range. A fully loaded new 8 will be in the $30,000 range. They depreciate greatly.

I have negotiated the price to $12,500, checking car fax it has been regularly maintained the car has 57K miles.

My heart says this is a great deal, but I can;t seem to pull the trigger.

Yeah, the price sounds great. What package and options are on the car? Check out KBB.com and you'll get an idea of what you'll want to pay.

I have driven it, and it seems solid. I live in Massachusetts and the KBB on it is 18,000, that is why I am hesitant. But the fact that the car is rear wheel drive and the dealer does not want to keep it through the winter explains the low price. It is a sport package Gray with Gray interior.
