Looking to buy a new Rx8- Questions

Iv been reading your guys forums for the past week or so and it kinda makes me sad. I really like the way the 8 looks and everything about it, but it seems like everybody talks about how something breaks or needs replaced. Im starting to wonder if its just going to be a huge problem in the future. Also i was wondering about the red digital screen in the middle of the dash, can that be replaced to something that looks a bit more 2000?

The car is so high tech, with the nav, heated seats, the sweet look'n circular style buttons, the gadges, must i keep going on? and then you got the digital dash.

Ummm...that's what people talk about on forums. Problems. Stuff that breaks. Trolls.

There is the sticky thread "the little things." And a bunch of "I love my RX-8" threads. Spend another week looking for those.

Yes - you can replace the red digital screen. There are DIY posts in the tech forum that tell how to disassemble the dash. Once you've got the screen out, you can put in whatever you want.

You happen to have any pictures of what one could look like if upgraded?

I have owned two RX-8's and I don't regret a minute of ownership. Both cars have been wonderful and any problems I have had have been quickly rectified by the dealer.
The car is a joy to own and drive. Between the two cars I have driven almost 50,000 miles.
27,000 on the first and the one I have now 19,000. Enjoying every mile.
Check out this "STICKY".

I must be one of the lucky ones. I have an 04 . No problems at all. except for the recall but I didn't have any of the problems others had. No flooding, no rattles, no clutch, gearbox, bad gas mileage..21 on the hwy. I'm happy with that. I love this car. It is such a pleasure to drive and I love the sound of the rotary. I think a lot of problems related to this car are due to flogging the hell out of it and trying to drag race others. It aint a drag car nor is it the fastest car out there, but it is the best handling car I have ever driven. The only gripe I have is the excessive road noise from the tires. I think I will keep it.

No. I really like that screen. It provides (for my taste) exactly the right amount of information. Very well integrated with the dash and other instruments. The idea of replacing it never occurred to me until you asked.

But the dash does come apart, and everything does come out. I don't know if anyone has actually replaced the screen, but take a look at the DIY section for nav add-ins, gage pods, whatever.

the squeeky wheel gets oiled. You'll find a TON more threads for problems than those for people that are thankful for whatever reason.

It's still a good car, despite it's overbearingly large amount of complaints that seem logged against it.

Take one out for a test drive...you'll see what makes it the real deal. And if break-downs concern you all that much, get an extended warranty. You'll have 100K/7 years before you have to even start worrying about any major expenditures.
