Looking to buy an RX8

Really Looking into an RX-8, Could you guys give me some of the common maintenance issues/ up keep that need to be done to these? The car im looking at is an 04 with 80k Miles on it for around 9k was wondering if this is a good price for the mileage. Ill be putting quite a bit of miles on it commuting to college, and can't have it dying out on me any time soon, I also cant afford it to be a money pit.

There is a lot of good information here, look at the stickies and learn all you can. IMO opinion if you have a long commute and don't have some money squirreled away for maintenance, I do not recommend an 8. Use what funds you have for school, when you get out with that degree and make tons of cash, you can get anything you want. Get something cheap that has good fuel economy, you will thank yourself later. If you plan to buy one anyway, get an 06 or newer. yes it costs more, but at least you have the piece of mind of the Engine core warranty. 04 are pretty much dead (warranty wise) and 05's will be ending soon. No matter what you buy, get a compression test before the purchase. Just my .02

This is not the car for you if you don't want to spend maintenance issues for this car, and this car is bad in gas mileage too. Anyway, just read some common issues of the rx8 and you will understand why. I'm not trying to scare you on buying an rx8, but if you have a tight budget, then this is not the car for you.

Buying any used car can be a bit like Russian roulette, the rx8 is no different. If you find one you are interested in buying, get a compression check to make sure all is good with the car and increase your chances of having the car be an issue in the future.

What is your budget? They don't get the best gas mileage, but it's not as bad as some people make it out to be. Let's say you're budget is $15k and you spend $10k on the rx8, $5k buys a lotta gas, so don't let the deter you.

Either way....do your research and make sure it's the right car for you and if it is, give your potential 8 a good background check.
