Looking at entering the RX-8 World

Looking at entering the RX-8 World
I've figured I've dumped enough money into my 1992 POS Ford Escort. I've been having trouble, and to pour more money into it just isn't worth it in my opinion.
So I had a look at some of the newer vehicles ... and the RX8 catches my eye. And as I was getting tires done at a local shop for my Escort, a nice blue RX8 pulled into the shop to have an oil change (where I discovered such are common -- or, adding oil is more like), and I had a chance to look at one in-person ... and I liked what I saw.
But I do not want to make a on-spot decision. My car's running again after a snapped CV axle, so I'm going to drive that for a while. But I want to do my research before I go and buy a vehicle -- and I want to hear from you guys what I'm to expect. I hear rumors left and right, good and bad, but I want to hear from the RX8 Community what's to be said.
One such rumor is regarding the engine dying, especially the newer ones, after 30,000 miles (new design of engine with the rotary, which I think is damned cool, but perhaps a flaw?)
Let me know the ups and downs, and after your purchase if you would recommend. I'm also taking a chance now to read through the forums asking such questions, but from you to me in the situation I'm in ... I'll just stop talking, you get the point. Looking for advise, info, rcommendations, all that jazz. I'm going to go in person next week when I have a few days off, do some test driving of the MX5 as well as some of the other vehicles there. But under recommendation, I'm going to try and go for Mazda for a new vehicle. (And I don't neccessarily mean "new", but newer than my 1992. Like, 2000+).
Anywho, I end here. Your thoughts plz!

Well, the main advice you're going to get is to do some searching around this site. Whatever question you have has been answered in a past thread...there is a wealth of information.
I've got an '04...never had any problems with it. If you buy a used one, jsut make sure the previous owner took care of it...recalls and TSB's were done...all that stuff.

Hey all,
Thanks for the advise. I've had a chance to poke around, and indeed, there is a grand wealth of information here on the site. Might take a while, but will definately get me the information I need, and perhaps even more. Like what to do if I find a little plastic piece in my centre console, preventing flooding, etc. etc.
Perhaps I'll have pictures of my own '8' on here soon enough. We shall see -- it's what I'm going for right now. The only Mazda I can see that can hold more than one passenger and still have a two-door style. (Alright, the '8' technically has 4 doors, but the other two are cool).
Cheers!
- Railker (Which, BTW, was taken from something in the classroom a number of years ago ... was playing a game online in all classes requiring a computer, needed a username. Picked a couple random letters off some poster and came up with that. No meaning or anything ... just picked it up and used it )

Although there are a lot of 04 owners that have had zero problems with the car, the 04 models have had the most recalls/TSBs than the other years. If you can afford it, go with an 05 or newer.

Welcome and the 04's are fine I don't care what anyone says as long as all the recalls/tsb's/flashes are done it's the same thing...depending on ur budget i personally would go with the newest that u can afford just for bumper to bumper warranty but no matter what the engine internals are covered for 8 yrs 100k miles so ur good there!
