Looking for first RX8

Looking for first RX8
I will be looking for an RX-8 in the next few weeks. Car will be mainly for SOLO and a few track days a year. Will run in BS.
I will propbably be looking for a 04 with as little options as possible. I've seen a few locally that are under 12k, wich seems like a pretty good deal.
What I want to know is if there is any performance benefits to the sport or touring models. I didn't see anywhere that listed the differences between models, if I'm just blind, please give me a link.
My background:I've been a diehard Subaru man since 2002. A WRX and 2 STIs. Right now I'm in the process of selling my DD 07 STI for a cheap daily car with good mpg, and RX8 for mostly racing duties.

The base model weighs several pounds less, so for track days it is (just a tiny bit) better.
But there are no performance differences in the other models. Just safety and cosmetic differences.
See if you can grab Isley's attention (rx8club - ulllose) He is well versed in the BS catagory with the RX8.

Like rqlbeql stated, transmission/engine is the same in all models. The base does not have traction control while the Sport adds the same along with Xenon headlights and a few other creature comforts. The base/sport weighs less than the touring, and the touring weighs less than the grand touring.
If you're used to the 1/4 mile time of the STI, the RX8 will seem slow to you. But if you're looking for a track car with near 50/50 balance and great handling (albeit, a little soft), then the 8 is for you.

all manuals have a limited slip, but the sport model adds dsc/tc.
since you'll be using it for racing, i dont know how important that is to you. but i've kept it on while racing and it doesnt make a difference as long as you are driving correctly (no dorifto), except to save you from going into the wall.
imo, go for a sport. you can turn of dsc/tc if you dont want it and its good to have. also, go for an 05. 04s (mostly the autos) had problems.

Thats what I thought, just cosmetics and such. I will be looking for a base, but as long as it doesn't have a sunroof I'll consider it.
As far as outright power, I know It won't be as fast as the STI(12.50s). But power is't everything. And I can't justify having a $30+k car sitting in the garage 95% of the time.
Pic for the hell of it.

The STi is fantastic. I had a GM6 with STi conversion before. It is fast! But there is something about driving vmax in a finely balanced RWD sports car that no hi-po AWD/FWD sedan can ever deliver no matter how many alphabet-soup techno TLAs installed.
Also look into the S2000 since you want a more track focused car. But if your require back seat, the RX-8 is very good too.

My car has exhaust and a tune. Thats it.
I want a back seat just in case my dd breaks and I need to use the 8. I'll still be able to pick up the kid and whatnot.
