Looking to get an RX, but..
I'm an absolute noob when it comes to the Mazdas!
Heya. This is my first post here..
I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, and am looking to purchase from either.. People's Mazda or Courtesy Mazda. Same company, though. I've driven a Toyota Corolla professionally for the last two years. What should I know about the RX-8's (I've been told that RX-7's are impossible to get a hold of).. and does anyone know how to persue a good deal with this? These companies dont really have much competition. They want a straight 26,000 dollars and the sales rep was extremely stubborn about negotiating price.
This is for an '06, basic model AT Mazda RX-8.. these cars seem to hold their value very well. Should I buy new or do you think I could get a steal on an older Mazda?
They also have two Shinka's available.. when I buy this car, I want it to be for a good while. Think I should go for the Shinka? (One of them is that sparkly dark red color.. I'm not sure what the other looks like).

If you really are a professional driver, I dont know why you would be interested in the AT. Dont be afraid to travel to get a better deal.
Also, these cars do NOT hold thier value very well. When I purchased mine in Aug 2003, I paid $32k... even with the MS kit installed, I would be extremely lucky to get $20k for it now.

Welcome. I would suggest going on to a few car buying web sites and getting some quotes. That will give you an idea on what they are selling for in your area. Edmunds is a good place to start. The red Shinka is called copper red. Very nice. good luck.

Wow! Some amazing input you guys.
For the record, I've only driven Automatic in my life - I'd LOVE to learn Manual but I just never had that old relative with the beat up pick-up to practice on! I heard a LOT of the fun is in the MT.. I've no idea where to learn before I'd get a vehicle like this.
(I work waaaay too much! Gotta start living a little more now. 21.. Vegas.. 60 hour work weeks with school on top.. somethin's gotta give.
I'm looking around right now at prices.. and I'll give the salesman that ultimatum. Mwuahah. <Grins>

I just checked out the prices? Seriously.. there are ZERO '06 RX8s outside of People's and Courtesy. The other places are over a hundred miles away. Literally. I'd have to go to Utah or California. MOST of the used ones are also there, with few variations.. prices go from $20k for an '04 with 17k miles, $21k for an '05 with 13,000...

Don't let the salesman take advantage of you just because you're 21 and thinks you're a noob. Walk out if the price/interest rate isn't exactly what you want to pay. Do plenty of searching. AutoTrader.com, Edmunds.com, Cars.com, Carmax.com, etc....
I don't know how much you understand about buying cars, but make sure you also get a low interest rate. Don't be afraid to shop around financial institutions. I'm a member of the American Airlines Credit Union and was able to get a fixed 60-month 5.25% rate. That's very low for a used car.
CarBuyingTips.com is a great website to learn how to purchase a car. Possibly its best feature is a downloadable loan calculator excel spreadsheet thats the best I have ever seen. You'll want the "4 Scenario Loan Spreadsheet" to be exact.
Also, don't get the automatic. Buy the manual and learn to drive it. It's the only way you'll ever learn! It will suck in the beginning, but after a few weeks you'll be hammering through the gears like a pro.
Good luck!

Yeah. Surely there's got to be a driving school around there. Really one lesson is all you need. The RX's tranny is one of the easiest I've driven. Okay, maybe 5 and 6 kind of sucked before I got the Axial flow shifter, but still...the main thing learning how to drive stick is getting out of first. Once you get that down, you should be in the clear. It's all about getting to know the cars friction point.

That's not entirely true. In some markets they hold their value just fine.

Mazda is offering $4000 incentive on the 2005's right now.
Tell your dealer to be sure to honor that one.
We just picked up a brand new '05 AT Sport package for just under $21,000.
So "you can do it"
