was looking new, now looking used

Hello Club,

Some of you may have know I was looking at new 06 gts. But after consulting my savings accout, and the finicial advisors, We decided that even though I can buy a new rx8, It would leave me finacially taped out. So I am now seeing how the used market for rx8s are. I am looking to spend ~20k on a rx8. The dealer had 4 used, 1 red, 1 silver, 1 automatic, and 1 galaxy grey, all of varying years and miles, all for 24k ouch. So I was wondering what is a good price for a low mileage rx8? Thank you all so much for your help, someday I hope to be able to give back to your comunity.

Just shop around. You can find a better deal with some effort. You should easily be able to find an 04 for well under 20k. I just got my 04 a couple of months ago. I was looking for a new one and just hapened to see a used red one in the lot at the local Ford dealership and stopped to look. I couldn't leave without it. Love at first sight. It had 37,000 miles but all the maintenance receipts were in the glove box, and she had obviously had a previous owner that loved her as much as I do.

New is O.K., but a well cared for used RX-8 can make you happy for a lot less money. And it won't lose $5,000 dollars in value the moment you drive it off the lot. The savings on the taxes, and insurance will also leave your wallet feeling a lot thicker.

I think I will like shoping for used more than new, no real preasure to buy. I was trying to get an 06, and they were running out quick locally, so I was having to move fast. I will try and find a rx8 that is well cared for, and continue the love!

There's no reason you should pay $24k for a used RX-8 when I paid $23 OTD for a new 05 Sport trim RX-8. Just keep shopping around.

With the discounts you can get on a new one, I would go for a base 8 for about 22K. It beats paying 17 or 18K for a used one iwth similar equipment.

Those were the three I searched on before I bought my car.

What people are asking tends to be higher than what they are willing to accept. This car sits and sits. Bargain hard and don't accept a car until you get what you want at the price you want.

Sales tax is computed by the amount you put on the form you give to the CA DMV. The seller also has to agree to that amount as well. Most people tend to knock the price lower. Its up to you how much you want to try for. Of course--this is "illegal" so its up to you. You'll save about $82.50 bucks per $1000 with a 8.25% sales tax.

Yeah I wouldnt buy anything if it wasnt what I wanted for a price I wanted.

Man does the government really want more of my money?? ugh.

I am searching around, I will be sure to let everyone know as soon as I get one. Where is a good place to get one checked before I purchase it? I have a mechanic I trust, but I dont know what his knowledge on rotaries is.

Thanks again!

$24K used?! Dang! Here in the SF Bay Area, on Craigslist there is 2005 Black Cherry (Cooler looking in person...but cool in the pics as well...just REALLY cool in person) Shinka for $27K. Go to http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/car/233896741.html

I'd have jumped on it but I saw the add a month after I bought my car! I got mine for around $26K (GT). For $20K, if you've got a lot of patience and a little bit of negotiation skills you should get a used GT from 2004-05. But why? I mean its really none of my business but after financing and taxes it'd be better to find a dealer looking to clear out their 2006 stock (like I did) for what--$45/mo. or so extra. My two cents...

If you overspend, you can run the risk of not being able to afford the mothly notes, or the insurance. Don't let folks talk you into getting into a car you can't aford to pay for or drive.

Be careful with that. Even though DMV lacks many skills, they're not ignorant about car values. Also, if there's a problem with the car, you've said it cost less.

Here in Virginia a man bought a used Porsche. It had a valid title. Turned out it was stolen, but the seller got the title through a loophole in the state law. The state (actually a Commonwealth, not a state, but that's too long a word to type) decided they were responsible and reimbursed him for the car. Based it on the price he declared on the tax form.

He really came to regret shaving that $10,000 off the price.

At the other end of the spectrum, a DMV clerk in New York gave me one of those penetrating "Are you lying to me, boy?" stares when I said that the car I was registering was a gift, rather than declaring the $50 I had actually paid for it.

That was the conversation I had with the parents. There is a diffrence between being able to pay for it, and being able to afford it. I can pay for it, but I cant afford it.

The dealer I was at was not willing to go anything under invoice ignoring the money off for a 06gt, since they only had 2 left. *rolls eyes* But now I'll see what I can dig up in the used market, maybe even score a nav system.

It will be expensive in the Santa Clara area, but keep looking.

Make sure it's not abused.

Looking on auto trader, looks like alot of dealers down in San Deigo are letting them go pretty cheap. But I'll have to see how much itd cost to drive it back up here.

I got a new leftover 05 GT AT back in feb for 24.2K. But I think they did have more rebates on them back then. I would think you could get a used one in the upper teens from what people have been saying on this site.

20k otd would be ideal but if it was 21k otd for a really nice one, id go for it.
