looking for an rx8

looking for an rx8
looking for an rx8, but i have been doing a lot of reasearch and keep reading about how many problems they have. starters, engines, check engine lights on 24/7.... I also seem to read that the later 05 models and newer seem to have been fixed and not have the problems like the other years.
Before i buy one, i wanted some input from some rx8 owners. I am in warm southern california so problems that i have been told that are caused by cold weather shouldnt be a problem.
I won't have tons of money left over for repairs so it is somewhat important to decide if this is going to be the right car or not.
aim = pessimist recipe
email = oompzzz@hotmail.com
pm, email, or just reply.
Thank you VERY much for any help.

Hmm, maybe you should check the "satisfaction survey", with 871 replies…

I have an '04 and have had no real problems. If you're concerned Make sure you get one with a warranty. The bumper to bumper is 4years/50K miles which is better than most other manufacturers.
My advice:
-Make sure any recalls and TSBs are performed. there is a thread here listing them if you search under TSB
-Check oil regularly. It burns oil as part of its normal operation so you'll add a quart or so between oil changes.
-Don't get the automatic. It's not nearly as fun as the manual and the engine needs to be rev'd up on a regular basis to be kept healthy.
-Rev it up! Drive it to Redline at least once per trip after the car is warmed up to keep carbon buildup away.

well i was asking for specifics from some owners. i have searched on the forum and i come up with a lot of either 'yea, highly satisfied' or 'bad gas mileage'
nothing really came up with technical issues that i have read about, like faulty starters and constant breakdowns / always in the shop.
so thanks for those who answered me with some helpful comments, and if all you are going to do is act superior then do me a favor and dont comment... thats all....
but like i said, i really appreciate people who put some real answers for my question and i welcome more helpful input
just gotta decide if i wanna take the risk on an 04 or not.

well you sure are a dick...
you've posted on this 3 times, just to be an *** about it.
i was asking for help, not for someone to make sarcastic comments.
you didnt have to post on this in the first place. if u thought u were above answering my questions, then u didnt have to post anything at all.
thanks.

My 04 is perfectly fine except its been in the shop 4 3 weeks with tranny problems but they lost my parts in the shipment and my mechanic was off for half a week. I think it was just a falty parts cause my 8 only has 18,100 on her. Go for the 04 if you want its all fine just make sure it has a warranty.

My opinion is get a newer model that's still under bumper to bumper warranty if possible just in case the previous owner hasn't really taken care of it or there are some outstanding TSBs that need to be done.
You can search under TSB and there is a link to a list that you can print out and read through and go over with the seller or check out on the car you are buying.

This is probably the wrong place to post this, but I'll do it here anyway.
I went to the Ford/Mazda combo dealer today to purchase a 2007 Sunlight Silver RX8 Touring today and the sales guy wouldn't go down in price. I must be very crazy in wanting to buy this car since it is $3.75 for premium in San Jose, but I love how it drives. The car must have been sitting there awhile since it had 77 miles on it. I found this out last weekend when I went to check out the car because it had what I wanted. I didn't want to purchase when I saw it orginally.
