Love, 10,000 Miles Later
Hungry, I think about going out to get something to eat. The only places I can think of that is open on a Sunday at 9:30 PM are fast food joints and the local diners. I head out towards the local Taco Bell and there I get the usual compliments about the car. I swing towards the drive thru but the line is kinda long and I just think, I just want to drive a bit longer.
I head south on York Road thinking I'm hungry, I need something to eat! Head south on the main road listening to Indie music (The Cranberries) and I hit a red light in Lutherville. Some 2005- V6 Mustang beside me keeps inching forward and looks like he wants to race me. I'm at least 10 feet behind him and he guns it when the light turns green. I just wait a second and just accelerate like a grandma. I don't care about racing some idiot. I come to a round-about and take the exit heading east.
I realized, I've traveled quite a distance, time to go home. Knowing the roads quite well, I take a left onto the mall expressway. Take a right onto Dulaney Valley Road and redline down that straightaway (there's no where for cops to hide on that street). The road becomes a little windy and I realize wow, this is bliss. I turn onto Timonium road to get back on the main road so I can find something to eat. I redline down the main road and watch these two cars driving northbound, one following the other, the one behind flashing his hi-beams at the guy in front. I laugh realizing that the guy behind is trying to guide the person in front to their destination.
I stop at Wendy's and get a Taco Salad with some good chili. Mmm eating it as I type. I drive home and when I'm pulling into my street I notice my odometer is 10,000! I'm praying that it doesn't turn pass it when i get to my driveway that is a quarter mile away so I can take a picture of it. And I arrive home with the OD at 10,000. :-D
I've come to realize that the Mazda RX-8 is just world-class fun. It was a while since I've driven my car without purpose. The aggravation of taking deliveries was starting to make me lose the sense of pleasure I got while driving. For all those that do not own an RX-8 and wonder if they should get one, ask yourself one question: Do you enjoy driving? This car makes driving as enjoyable as possible. No need for insane amount of horsepower, just pure driving experience. You get to hear the engine purr as often as you redline it. And it is a beautiful sound. There is nothing I would trade this feeling for.
10000 miles! Time for my next oil change (I changed at 1,000, 4,000, 7,000). Every dollar spent on this car is worth it.

Wow. My sentiments exactly.
Most vehicles are appliances.
The RX-8 is the furthest thing from that.
Nothing like winding roads and hitting the sweet part of the peaky power band. I want to take a drive right now.

I know the feeling. Screw the 4$ gas, every weekend I go out at night and get "lost" on some streets in the city I've never been on before. And just drive. It's quiet, almost no traffic, and I've found a good few blissful curves.
